Clear liquid. It's just sugar, like juice is a clear liquid

Interesting question. I know on speech path recs, honey is definitely a step up from clears, but don't know how that would translate to NPO guidelines.

No, as in a crazy patient that ate (drank?) one of those bear-shaped bottles of the crap the morning of her early afternoon surgery. If considered clear, she met NPO guidelines, if considered anything else she did not.
It depends on the volume. If you're talking a couple packets in some water, who cares. If she downed the entire honey bear, I can't imagine what that would do to her gastric secretions. I would avoid tat crazy bitch. Those are the exact ones that have complications and blame us.

Wait, she ate the bottle? That's not even a liquid.

But I'd say she met the NPO guidelines if the bottle survived the attack.
She didn't eat the bottle, but looks like the person who would consider it. After all, she drank a bottle of honey... 5'2", 240ish, HTN, DM. Case was a ventral hernia repair. In the end, I just put her to sleep and tubed her. No issues. Just got me wondering though.

Rocket scientist. People like that keep us in a job.
Honey is almost pure sugar which means it gets absorbed very fast in the stomach and does not even get to the intestine.
If that was the only thing they ate I would not worry about it.
