Hey, after seeing your post, i thought i might throw in my 2 cent. 🙂 Med schools in Hong Kong are, according to a couple of my friends (which may not be soo reliable), very difficult to gain entry into. If you're looking to apply to HKU, be warned that they have very few places for international students. You also have to be excellent in cantonese in order to apply.

Also, it takes 7 years of med school in Hong Kong instead of the 5 or 6 years in New Zealand (I'm from New Zealand as well and am in my 2nd year of med school in UoA).

But I do encourage you to apply to Hong Kong becoz of the clinical experience you will have and the quality of education are vastly superior than New Zealand for reasons that are clear to anyone who has at least had some knowledge of the health system in New Zealand.

How do u go about applying? who else better than asking the university directly? just google HKU and email their med faculty about ur interest in applying to the medical programme and go on from there.

Good Luck

Jerry

I am a current med student from HK. Just to clarify. HK undergraduate med education is 5 years in total. Together with one year of internship after the 5 year, you can register as doctor. So it's 6 years in total, instead of 7.

For application, you would need to go to the respective universities homepage for their application forms.

how have you enjoyed it there?

I love it here. Mostly because I am studying what I truely enjoy. I also find that the teaching staff here are also very professional and passionate about what they do and about educating their students. I can't compare the med schools in HK with those from other countries, but my impression is that their quality should be quite similar.

hi kng sqaure

can u provide me the list of textbooks that medical students in Hk study for the final 2 years in this forum or in my email add at [email protected]
?

thanks

Hi Jerry

Nice one. So you're in the MB ChB programme in Auckland? Yes I guess medical education is similar in OU as well.

Cheers

not really, my dad met a dental student (from HKU) who only can speak little cantonese.
