Hi guys, 🙂

I just received my final grades and plan to graduate next week.

My GPA is currently a 3.897.
The requirements for honors graduation are the following:

Summa Cum Laude: 3.90 and higher
Magna Cum Laude: 3.80-3.89

Since my GPA is currently a 3.897, do you think it would be rounded to 3.9 for summa cum laude or would it be regarded as 3.89 for magna cum laude ? Either way I'm happy. Hard work does pay off! Congratulations to all Spring graduates!! Thanks in advance everybody! 🙂

I believe they do not round that to 3.90, unfortunately. But latin honors are pretty insignificant, imo. It was such a trivial part of the ceremony at my school that it seems like acknowledging honors was an afterthought. For example, the regalia for cum laude was identical to summa and magna cum laude.

That 3.897 will do wonders for you when you apply to med school. Good work, mate!

That said, that 0.003 is disappointing haha. :poke:

It's likely that it won't, they're typically pretty strict about these. Of course, it'd never hurt to give whatever department that controls these a call and see if you could have a discussion. I'm always a big fan of threats and blackmail for grad honors myself.

(This is obviously a joke, i realize sarcasm is poorly received on SDN. With that said, please don't threaten or blackmail your university officials)
