How important is it to get Honors/High Pass in the basic sciences if you want to do a radiology residency?
thanks
thanks
much much less important than getting a high step 1 score, getting honors/high pass in your 3rd year clerkships and doing some research that is preferably published
I respectfully disagree with the bolded, based on my experience. When I compare lecture notes with what's in review books/FA/whatever, our lecture notes definitely go into more detail (a LOT more detail, in many cases). And those details are all testable. If someone's just going through review books with the focus on prepping for Step I, I can definitely see them "just passing" classes while possibly doing very well on Step I. Just my $0.02.probably also good to point out that there is a difference between being able to get H/HP and choosing not to bother. If OP isn't able to get HP in preclinical courses, then the odds are against a blockbuster Step score to start with.
This may be a stupid question, but everyone has been saying that pre-clinical grades don't really matter, but does class rank (which is related to preclinical grades...)?
(for any of the competitive specialties)
That's not true at all. Nothing you do in your preclinical years compares to step 1.probably also good to point out that there is a difference between being able to get H/HP and choosing not to bother. It depends on the emphasis that class rank places on your pre-clinicals. My school doesn't use pre-clinicals at all for rank or AOA.
Oh interesting. Since class rank may or may not have to do with preclinical grades, how important is class rank for competitive specialties?
I have no idea what you are talking about.
well, that makes two people in this thread that have misunderstood my post, so I guess maybe it's my fault. SorryAll i was trying to point out was that the OP was ambiguous when it came to the reason for the question. If it's a matter of not wanting to study the minutiae that's required for preclinical honors, that's one thing. But if OP is unable, despite an honest effort, to at least get HP in preclinical courses, then yes i think that points to basic trouble with comprehension that will likely make difficult the kind of Step score we associate with a rads match.
Me too, and I'd tend to agree, for the most part.I understood your original post.
