Hey guys, so I've got a question about when to take my MCAT. I'm a junior, by the way.

I took the TPR summer hyperlearning course this past summer, with the intention of taking the MCAT in January. But stupid me didn't realize how tough my courses are right now-on top of all my volunteer work and whatnot-so I don't think I'll be prepared.

I also did research this past summer, and it's my baby because I started it from scratch. In order to do an honors thesis my senior year, there's a mandatory class I need to take next semester (long story). But if I take that class, I'm going to have a killer workload again, because I need to take Molecular Genetics + Phys 2 for my major, PLUS that additional lab course that's related to my potential honors thesis. If I do that, I won't have time to prepare properly for the MCAT in time for either the May or April test date.

What should I do? It seems like an MCAT vs. honors thesis debate...=P

Thanks!

take it in July? I did, and I was obviously not complete very early, but I've still gotten reasonably early invites.

I was thinking about that, but it doesn't really give me enough time to take it again if I don't do well the first time

you only want to take it one time. take it once and do well, that's all there is to it.

I chose honors thesis over MCAT... just put it off a few months.

I completely agree. But I'd also like to have that chance there, just to be safe. There's no guarantee that I'll do well the first time (for what ever reason)

So take it around July, you're saying?

Well, you already took the class. If you were scoring pretty well on the practice tests without being 'totally prepared' I'd say just take it in July. Don't stop preparing though, keep it on the priority list! It's easy to slack, I have a friend who is having that problem now. You are at an advantage compared to me. I did the MCAT prep the summer after the thesis, not a great idea... subsequently waited another year to apply.

And taking it twice isn't the end of the world. It BLOWS and is incredibly inconvenient, but hey, it happens.

Hmmm I wouldn't say i was scoring well though...<30. That's why I need more time to prepare.

I'm thinking I'll try to find a way around taking that class, so that I can still do my Honors Thesis AND prep adequately for the MCAT.

Thanks for all input everyone! 🙂
