Honors Thesis worth it?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I did an honors thesis and while it did suck (75 pgs), if you plan out your writing well and diligently work towards it each week (like 2 paragraphs per week, background done by month x, etc), it can be done. For the MD/PhD pathway it certainly help since you'll have to write a dissertation and articles - might as well get some practice lol.

Now the financial constraint is certainly a factor to consider - if the thesis route would be too burdensome, forgoing it won't prevent you from getting into med school as long as your other ducks are in line.

Can't comment on the money but the thesis was the best academic experience of my year and was a great capstone on the college experience. Mine was optional as well, and the personal/professional growth I got from it far outweighed the resume boost, which was still pretty decent. I've talked about it a lot in interviews too because I'm very personally invested in the topic (inequality in healthcare to keep t vague). I was in the same boat with being a bit scared to take it on, but I did anyways and am better off because I took the risk. I will say I was only taking like 10 other hours at the time so your schedule may be tough to manage, but if you are diligent I'd say go for it!

At work so can't elaborate more but PM me if you'd like more insight into my experience and such, happy to help in any way I can
