Honors vs HP top residency programs

Hello all,

I'm an MS3 at a US medical school. I am interested in pursuing pediatrics and have sights set on some top programs. I got low 240's on step 1 but only a HP and not an honors on my peds rotation. Will the HP prohibit matching into a top program?

Not necessarily. You should be fine. It would be important to get some honors on other rotations and later SubIs.

No it's fine. As long as your MSPE letters don't give the impression that your grade was docked because you're some weirdo who couldn't get along, programs understand that grades from various schools can be fickle and sometimes arbitrary. Clearly it would be nice if you could get an honors on a sub-I before your application is due, but if that's not possible I wouldn't let an HP keep you up at night.
