Hooked on Phonics for Pharm

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It's good that generic (scientific) nomenclature suffices for our purposes, or at least, practically speaking, for the boards. Think of the mess that the pharm industry has created that pharmacists and pharm techs have to deal with. Common names sometimes sound or read very similar to generic names of completely different drugs. This is why Rx scripts have to be written very clearly.

One part of our syllabus had the phonetic pronunciations, which helped a lot with those tricky names where you can unknowingly put the em-fay-sice on the wrong sill-lab-ell...

Can't spell it nor can I pronounce it, but I sure can recognize it in multiple choice format! 😀

Just thought I'd let you guys know that there's an iPhone/iPod touch application on the iTunes store that has 2500 drug pronunciations. It's called "Medical Drug Pronunciations". Just do a search for it on the iTunes store.

There's also Microbiology pronunciations if you have trouble with those.
