hey all... i'm trying to make plans for my interview at hopkins on friday 1/28 (anyone else?). i know they house you with a student for a night, but is that for the night before the interview? is there an option to stay the night after also? i was planning on going up and spending part/all of the weekend with a friend, but she's not going to be able to make it. i heard a rumor somewhere that they treat you to a dinner as well, but i'm not sure how reliable the source is. if that's true, is it the day of the interview or before? i'd love to spend some time in baltimore/DC while i'm up there, just trying to figure out if it's feasible.
thanks for any thoughts...

hey - you can stay with a student or in reed hall (i'd recommend staying with a student), and it's your choice whether you want to stay the night before the interview or the night after. Also, they don't give you dinner (you get lunch on your interview day), but there is a meet and greet program with first year students that you can go to either the night before or after your interview, and there are snacks there (it's at 8 pm). Hope that helps a bit!

If you stay with a student host, he or she is expected to provide you with dinner (at home, not a restaurant).

I stayed in Reed when I interviewed, which was convenient, but I host interviewees now, and the advantage to that is getting more time with a student.

Congratulations and good luck with your interview.

percykat77,

Hoping you could help out a fellow Tarheel! When were you complete at Hopkins (relative to your submission date) and how long afterwards did it take to get an interview? The only thing I've heard from them is that they received my secondary as of 12/10. So that's a month and still no word if I'm complete. Also, any idea when the stop interviewing? Thanks.

I was complete at Hopkins in, oh, September or early October I guess? Got an interview invite at the end of November and did the interview 12/17. Still haven't heard anything...

They wouldn't let prospective students stay with a host the night after the interview for some reason. So I just arrived that morning instead of spending the night. The tour was pretty in-depth and there's lots of chances to speak with current students.

i think you can stay more than one night but you have to pay like $25 per night. should say on one of the papers in the interview packet.

when were you complete percy?

thanks for the replies folks. i got the following emails in november: "thank you for submitting your application..." on 11/10 and "we have received all materials in support of your app..." on 11/24. i got the email inviting for the interview on 1/06. so it takes a little while. i was really surprised to get the interview actually, but for whatever its worth, i have a good friend who got a rejection from there almost immediately after submitting his secondary, i think within 2 weeks (and he has really good stats). so if you haven't heard anything yet, my guess is you will be invited to interview. hang in there!

jankanator... where else are you applying? i assume you're applying to UNC? how's that going? i interviewed last monday... the monday night madness on the UNC/ECU thread is killing me! did you go to UNC undergrad? (i'm watching the UNC-Georgia tech game right now... go heels!)

Hang in there, friends. When I applied, I was complete in August but didn't get an interview until January. This just goes to show that the med school admission process is not entirely logical ...
