Okay, so i have a horribleeee transcript, when i say horrible i mean OMG are you ******ed??? probation and suspension horrible. 😳🙁... if i can prove to those Rx schools and bring my gpa up by repeating courses that i havent done so well in and do extreeemely well on the PCAT...will they consider me?? has ANYONE been in this situation?? im so embarrass to still want to pursue this career with such a messed up transcript. should i still go for it? or give up? i really dont want to give up! i've spend 3 yrs on this track and whats another 3 yrs to bring it back up??? help anyone??? thanks!

How many credits have you taken? Have you done anything outside of school to help you, volunteer, head up extra curricular activities or groups, work in pharmacy, coach any youth sports?
And what is your GPA? Were your grades in prereq classes bad too, and if they were how bad, Cs or Ds and Fs??

i feel like i'm in your position, i messed up my first year went on probabtion, and raising my GPA slowly.....

but i dun feel like i can compete with my GPA to get into pharmacy school
but i still really do wanna pursue this career

3.9 now.

Took 2 years off, came back, signed up for "fresh start option" which overwrites my old gpa.

yeah, i would wanna find out about this
since i heard of like postbac is kinda like a freshstart
but their tuition is EXPENSIVE >_> like practically going to pharm school itself

just goto google and type college fresh start option.

If not all, I'm sure most schools have that option.

"Fresh Start" is pretty much self explanatory. It replaces ur old gpa to new without averaging old/new.

Example: If you get an F in Calc the first time, then the 2nd time (fresh start) you get an A. It won't balance to a C. It will just be A.

FS is only given once and usually only after an absense of 2+ consecutive years. I know one school that requires only 1 yr of absense. It's pretty cool however, your bad grades will still remain on ur transcript.

Yeah, I'm kinda in the same position too, and I'm not sure what to do. I've taken classes this summer, and I'm doing well, but I don't think it'll be enough to raise my GPA high enough to be readmitted. I had a terrible spring semester (basically F's). I am dead set on going to pharmacy school at unc no matter what, but i'm thinking about the application process, and i don't know what path to take to fix this. I'm an undergrad senior now; should I take a fifth year to raise my GPA? Do Post-grad? Double major? I don't know. Any suggestions/advice/info would greatly be appreciated, 'cos i just don't know 🙁

Well, I know UNC is pretty competitive (that's where I'm applying too). I feel it is worth applying because you never know, and if you don't get accepted re-take the classes you did bad in.

Yeah, I know UNC is really hard to get in, which is why i have to fix this situation I'm in before i apply. UNC is the only school I want to apply to and get into. I intend on applying next year though. we'll see what happens 😳 Good luck with your application though!!🙂

Yeah, I'm only going to apply to one school and that's UNC. I don't want to go anywhere else. I know it may seem kinda foolish to some people, but I don't see it that way. I lived on campus there for a while, and visited the pharmacy school and talked with the reps there, and I absolutely loved it even more so; I don't see myself going anywhere else. It has one of the best pharmacy programs in the country, and i'm in-state, so all the better.

PharmCAS averages all classes. You must report all schools and classes you have ever taken in college. No exceptions. For instance, I took Calculus and got a D the first time. I took it again and got a B. At my school we had 'freshman forgiveness' for one class, so the D was basically thrown out. BUT...PharmCAS averaged the D into their gpa. Unf, again, no exceptions to this 🙁

Aww, best of luck to you! I'm leaning towards applying to just the one school too, even if that may seem foolish. I think my mom is frustrated with that because if I go in-state (Maryland), we could save a lot of money and she wants to keep me nearby (haha), but I really have my heart set on not Maryland. >< I think I'm going to be applying next year too. 😀 Let's hope for the best for the both of us!

?? So you can have ur prior work excluded from the calculation of your cumulative grade point average.

cgpa after retaking classes freshstart = 4.0

cgpa after retaking classes without freshstart = 2.0

when I graduate, I can say I graduated with 4.0

You'll still end up with a 3.0 for pharm schools since they average all the grades, but definitely better than 2.0! However, getting a 4.0 the second time around makes you look better to pharm schools.

pharmcas uses all grades and will calculate their own gpa that is different from your transcript gpa. and pharm schools will use this gpa for admission purposes.

some schools do replace old grades if the course is repeated and those grades don't come up on the transcript (shows up as an R for replaced). however, i know on the AMCAS that they can call the school and find out what the old grade was. if the schools tell them, they will use this grade. basically, if they can find out, they will put it.

i read somewhere on the forums that some school's won't look at grades older than five years. you might want to search for the thread on the prepharm board.

well, my gpa is currently a 1.5 🙁 sad i know! and i dont have that many credit hours. There are some classes that i can retake and it'll replace my first grade. So i mean, thatd help with my gpa. But the thing is, if i bring up my gpa and do well on the pcat, i just wanna know if i have a chance to get in...cos my transcript is relaly bad. ??? has anyone been in this position and still got in? i dont think anyone is as bad as me!

We have that in Texas, but it's after ten years.

Fresh Start
Senate Bill 1321 entitles residents of the state of Texas to seek admission to public institutions of higher education without consideration of courses taken ten or more years prior to enrollment. This bill gives students the option of electing to have course work taken ten or more years prior to the starting date of the semester in which the applicant seeks to enroll either counted as usual or ignored for admission purposes. Applicants who elect to apply for admission under this law and who are admitted as students may not receive any course credit for courses taken ten or more years prior to enrollment.

what year are you? if you're a freshman, then yes you still have a chance. if you're a junior or senior with a 1.5 gpa, then i say forget it, unless you want to spend another 3+ years with 4.0 gpas to bring it up.

Schools like to see an upward trend. If you messed up freshman year, bring it up and as long as they see improvement then it's not a big deal. Redeem yourself in their eyes and you can explain your failures in writing as well.
