Sorry if this seems like I’m jumping to conclusions

Did you friend even grow up in the USA?

Americans especially Americans born and raised women docs lol don’t put up with this nonsense.

Yep. American as they get. He did note majority of the group is women. He notes they are the first to state they are uncomfortable with caseload or case assignments, no qualms. Males, both physicians and CRNAs, tend to, take assignments on the chin.

At this point he is just a fool. I don’t say that trivially or with disrespect.

Per Merriam-Webster:

Fool

1: a person lacking in judgment or prudence

2b: one who is victimized or made to appear foolish : DUPE

3a: a person lacking in common powers of understanding or reason

He told me group is pretty notorious for pulling him out of stable running vascular cases to run into emergency c sections. You know, rather then send someone who's available

That’s the worst type of case. MD only finishes their own cases

Ur friend is a tool/push over. Either quit or stand up. Two choices.

Or stop complaining.

Can he say, “No. I’m already doing a case.”? Maybe practice in front of a mirror. Sounds like the problem might be him.

In northeast , there should still be some solo jobs. I’m guessing he has family in the area limiting his job search ?

It seems like your friend doesn’t mind doing these cases.

JFC - move. Most places will give you a moving stipend and signing bonus these days. It’s not that hard - I don’t get why people are so reluctant to move. Families should make compromises for the bread winner if that’s the issue. I just don’t get it.

Or maybe aneftp is right and it takes a woman anesthesiologist to have the balls to speak up, take a stand and leave if they don’t listen. ;-)

Life is short. No reason to stay in a bad job.

The only other thing I can think of is that your friend is on partner track and he thinks that refusing cases will hurt his chances of becoming partner. On the other hand, would you really want to be a partner at a place that takes advantage of you ?
Well yeah cause then he'll get to abuse... I mean, take advantage of the next partner track docs.

Partner tracks are dead. Get out. Tell him to post on here - or through you- what he’s looking for- must haves and can’t stands - this is a wide network and most people have or can make a spot

Not all of them.
I’m glad you at still maintaining a true private practice

It’s a struggle in many areas. I’ve talked to the last 2 remaining true private practices in a 60 mile radius of where I live. So much pressure to open up new coverage locations to extra more revenue for the hospitals.

Those guys want to maintain control. Hospitals opened up 2 new areas including new ob 24/7 coverage. Before they didn’t have ob.

Just getting nickel and dime with subsidies for extra coverage. Hospitals offering them another $1.2 mil for the 24 ob coverage. Just not enough in my opinion. For now they want to maintain Md only on weekends.

Some years each partner still make 700k. Last year they average 650k each. That’s good for Florida. But not much more than you can make at an amc working the Extra hours the partners make. They work around 55 hrs a week with 9 weeks off.

But it’s the autonomy they get to keep.

Private practice may not be dead but “partner tracks” are - no one is going for the 2 years to financial equality track any more - that’s what i meant. I’m sure there are a few exceptions but not many

Pp isn’t dead in SoCal. Though I will preface that it is rare. No supervision. ~2 year partnership track. Fair scheduling even for the new associates.
How much are u working and how much time off and compensation (doesn’t have to be exact numbers)

Including calls and beeper calls ?
1. Average physical hours worked in hours
2. Average beeper hours
3. Average gross compensation before deductions/heath/malpractice
4. Average time off

The spread difference between hospital w2 vs true private is narrowing each day

A hospital package with $650k with 45 hr average plus overtime pay and no beeper and 10’weeks off and zero overhead is more appealing than a private practice making 800k and no benefits and 55-60 hrs a week and 8 weeks off for example.

Agree. That example hospital pays more.

This is why my sister resigned her true private practice partnership last December.

Average partner pay 750k but working 55 plus hrs and like 9-10 weeks off. The big guns making 1.2 million but working 3 weekends a month but taking 2 weeks off a year and working close to 80-90 hrs

You know of hospital packages/W2 jobs in SoCal offering 650k for 45 hrs/week? If that's the case, then that's a better deal than the good private practices in SoCal (ob anesthesia, 65-ish hrs, ~750k, 8 weeks vacation)

You guys are working way too hard. California , New York.

The w2 package in California for 45 hrs a week is closer to 600k but most people won’t take it because it’s better to be 1099 package to evade nasty taxes as s corp.
