I was hoping someone could help me with a question I had about credentialing.

I finished my anesthesia residency on the east coast a year ago and started a fellowship. I left the fellowship after a month because I hated it. I wasn't asked to leave or had any problems, but the PD, she wasn't too happy about me leaving. I started a new job in another state without telling my group or the hospital about my fellowship. I just said I took some time off after residency.

Now, a year later, I'm going back to the state where I trained. I have a job offer, but I didn't tell the group I am joining that I was in a fellowship for a short time. I was wondering if it is something I should mention on the credentialing application for the hospital since it is in the same state? I'm not sure if they have ways of finding out, but their language is pretty strict about omitting information. And I can't imagine the fellowship PD would have good things to say about me if they called her. I wanted to keep it quiet since I didn't even tell my group.

Thanks in advance for your input.

You decided to leave a fellowship as you said but now you want to keep it a secret!
Why?

Interesting question and I don't profess to really know the answer except to say that the best policy in these circumstances is to always tell the truth so that you don't have to worry about it in the future.

My perception of the amount of concern that various entities have with this scenario:

State medical board>>>Credentialing folks>> PP group

I'm not sure why you feel the need to lie to your future partners if it was as simple as you said. That is the kind of thing that can get you to not make partner after your 2 years, or terminated immediately for cause. You're playing with fire. If they feel you lied to them, they WILL fire you because they will not trust you again. You know, with little things like their patients lives. There's more to this story, you don't lie to your partners because you changed your mind about specialization and hated your program director.

all i have to say is that.... you must disclose this in my opinion. this is a nothing issue really. It makes little difference to me or anybody else that you di d afellowship and left after a month. You are allowed to do that. You may have to answer why questions about it.. but if you did not disclose it they can get you for lying.. and all that.. especially the medical boards... so just put it down..

Just curious, what did you end up doing and how did it go?
