Hey guys, current fellow here.

Will be receiving a contract soon from a large hospital organization. I suspect the majority of the contract is the same for all physicians within the system, regardless of speciality but I could be wrong.

Aside from compensation, bonus structure, and non-compete clause, what are other things you all think are important to tease out in a contract? Any tips/pearls about negotiation specifically with a big hospital system?

My hospital system negotiated on base salary, signing bonus, and $/wrvu bonus. Non compete was a no go for negotiation since they said all docs have the same non compete. They also would not budge on wrvu thresholds for bonus.

Rest of the language is pretty standardized and not generally up for negotiation with a large system.

Look up the posts from BobBarker on what you should be negotiating

a system can put in addendums to the standard contract, if they are desperate enough want to.

they rarely do.

ask about tail coverage.

ask about on call requirements and requirements for inpatient consultation.
