A lot of times, the 12 hour shifts are used by the overnight pharmacists ( 7 on 7 off ) while the day time pharmacists work 8 hour shifts with maybe 1 or 2 hours of overlap.I know most jobs in the hospital setting are done in 3 shifts. Is this the same for pharmacy?
For example, would one shift for a pharmacist be 7 to 3, and another one would come in 3 to 11? Or do they work 12 hours?
Our shifts at our hospital
6:30 -3
7-3:30
8-4:30
9-5:30
9a-9:30p
11-7:30
1-9:30
2-10:30
9p-7a
9:30p -7:30a
so as you can see, it is gonna vary
Our shifts are similar to that as well. I like it.
Nah. that overnight shift would blow.
How? 8 hours is better than 10 hours.
I agree. That shift would be terrible. If I had to work overnights, 10 hours 7on7off only.
Would you want to do 5 days of 11-7 every week? Your 2 off days would not be enough to convert.
It would be 4 days a week and every other weekend. Convert? I thought you guys just become permanent nightwalkers and sleep during the day. Then again, most of what I like to do happens at night so it's easier for me.
Convert to days.
I don't work overnights but I wouldn't do what you're proposing. How would 4 nights and every other weekend work with a partner?
our third shift people never call out - they are tough SOB's - one missed work for the first time in 5 years - we all knew he was sick. The one thing I don't like is how often day shift people call in sick and it is not treated as a big deal, but if an afternoon-evening shift or overnight person calls in, it's a big deal.

actually at our place, virtually nobody calls out (minus one or two of the "usual suspects") and it is never a big deal
not sure if you remember our convo on a different thread - one bank of PDO (vacation, sick, and holiday) between 200 (5 weeks) and 320 hours (8weeks) of total PDO time each year (depending on how long you have been there). can carry over 240 hours every year, you get paid out what you have left in your bank when you quitDo you guys get paid out for unused sick time?

yup and I prefer it (so I get to take nice long vacations) - next year taking 3 weeks off at one time for wedding/honeymoon - and still will have four weeks to burnAh yes, in your system it is beneficial to only call out when you absolutely need to.
