Hospitalist contract

Hi all,
I was asked to sign an agreement that asks for the hospitalists to take a day off randomly if the census is low. Troublesome as this sounds like a locum job for regular salary? How can anyone have a flex schedule to this extent?

mine says the opposite, that you may be awsked to work more than 7 on 7 off if census gets high...i would recommend u have a lawyer look over it

If your interpretation is correct this is a red flag. If the hospital has trouble keeping a census and is asking you to pay the price in intermittent low hours it may not be far away from shutting down or being acquired.

MDs should never agree to be "mandated" off of work. No way I would sign that.

You don't get paid if you don't work. This is a bad deal.

Agreed. Negotiate this away or look for another system that values your time and skill set more.

Thanks to all of you who replied. I am not sure why they even feel this is something they can change. This is a change to the original contract they are asking us to sign.
