Hosting a Party in an Off-Campus Apartment = Bad Idea

If alcohol is involved?.... if I got caught what would happen?... bad for med school app? or not on the app?

Can I do this?

Adults get together to drink in bars, apartments, and houses frequently. There is some risk to the host if they are letting minors drink on the premises, especially if the host provided the liquor. If your neighbors are the type that might call the police rather than let you know you're being too loud, it helps to inform them of the party a day or two ahead of time. Even if the police do show up, it's often just to let you know you need to keep it down.

You've started 10 new threads in the past 20 days. The answer to all 10 of these threads can be found by either:
  1. google
  2. asking a random adult on a street corner

I'm starting to seriously think that signing up for pre-med courses should come with a xanax prescription. Chill out.

OP, I don't think it matters, because if you are hosting it, it is Going to be a pretty lame party.

This is a really ridiculous type of question. Just tell your neighbors that you're throwing a party and you'll do your best to keep the noise level down. Have it be BYOB and proceed to get plastered. The thought that attending/hosting a party would somehow affect my application couldn't be further from my mind. That kind of thinking could keep someone from doing anything fun at all, and I needs my alcohol.

I am a ****** and the only party ive ever been to I got kicked out of in high school lol.... if the cops came wouldn't I get in trouble for serving minors alcohol? Or if it's BYOB I wouldn't?

A maturing, learning experience for your med school app and the possibility of getting some action. Win-Win in my book.

but basically it's unlikely I get caught right?

How anal are your neighbors? I can't think of any reason the cops would pay a visit without someone complaining that you guys are getting too rowdy.

Just have your party man and don't worry about it.

OP, please quit posting irrelevant threads that bump relevant threads that benefit other members of the community down the line and off the main page.

Use your brain. What do you think would happen if you hosted a party with underage drinkers? This is against the law. What happens to people who break the law?

This is the first website I found when googling "hosting a party with underage drinkers": http://www.marininstitute.org/alcohol_policy/socialhost_teenparties.htm

The reason I assume you're underage is because...on second thought, no need to finish this sentence.

USE GOOGLE. IT IS YOUR FRIEND. QUIT TROLLING.

Better yet, invite the police. Then you don't have to worry about them showing up and they can be drunk.

I'm sure you can write that on your app as an amazing learning experience.

THIS is why I can not stand premed/med students.

You should definitely put that on your application as an EC/Volunteer gig!

What did you say you are? A midget? A griffin? A pirate? I can see all of these getting kicked out of HS parties...but...Does sdn censor those words?

Yeah, if the party is BYOB, and you can prove it by showing the cops the original e-vite, then you're fine.

Edit: none of those words got censored. He's probably just a ******.

Edit2: yeah!!! He's a ****in ******!!!!!

Is an e-vite admissible in a court of law?

And I thought muff was a dude, but the username is making think otherwise...

I think we need a RL SS to resolve this internet conundrum. 👍

as long as college kids all live on your block you should be ok

It is a terrible idea for anyone pursuing a professional career. It's a well known fact that the use of substances like alcohol not only have serious negative effects on grades, but it is also harshly frowned upon by adcoms. Have you ever looked at the consequences of alcoholism? My guess is not. Alcohol may be marketed as being okay when used responsibly, but I think most people will tell you it's simply not worth it, especially if you aspire to become a doctor. Only thing I can say is if the ADCOMs find out about your drinking habit, you can kiss medical school goodbye. (If you don't flunk out of your classes before you even get to apply).

I'm actually appalled that someone who wants to be in charge of patients in life or death situations would ever consider experimenting with alcohol. I think you need to really contemplate this career choice if your considering using alcohol. You clearly have some maturing to do.

Even funnier than the OP's post, is Mother Teresa here invoking Burnett's Law in the name of alchohol

I find this hilarious because I hosted a party in an off-campus apartment last week and alcohol was involved! And I am on the adcom!

However, let the record show that everyone was over 21.

So grateful no one pointed out the obvious downside to parties with alcohol:
