Hey all,
Question if anyone has any idea about the following.
I was contacted bout a job to write prescriptions for hot tubs.
I am primarily MSK so I assume that's one of the reasons they contacted me.
I've never heard of prescriptions to get hot tubs for cheaper - I guess patients dont have to pay taxes.
Has anyone heard of this?
Any scam concerns? Does anyone do this?
Thanks!

I agree. Run away. Don't even reply.

There's no way you want your name attached to that. Rx'ing hot tubs?

If this company bills medicare under your NPI for a ridiculous number of hot tubs then you're in hot water.

There are all sorts of prosthetics/orthotics/DME companies trying to scam Medicare, using your license. I would assume any "job" Rx'ing DME is 100% scam unless proven otherwise.

fair enough

It’s also been hard to get covered in the first place. It’s much like bed prescriptions. If it is directed by either myself or the patient, then I’ll often give it a try while being very clear on the medical justification. I’ve had some spinal stenosis patients that struggle with being supine. Theoretically an adjustable bed could help. As long as it’s not Sleep Number giving the patient the idea to cover under insurance I’ll generally try to advocate for the patient. But agree with everything above. DME fraud is MUCH more common than we all think
