has any of you ever arrived to an interview in a different city/state the day of the interview (meaning not taking a room the night before)? I am going to interview in pitt in two weeks (it's a monday) and i thought about getting there the morning of the interview and leave the same day, has any of you ever done it? do you know where I can find any fairly cheap rooms at the school's area (around $50-60/night)?

A guy at my Colorado interview was from Montana and he flew in and out the same day. He said it was the way to go for him. I guess it depends on how far you are away from the city and what time your interview is. Personally, I would go in and out if I can because a tour is usually included in the interview so there is not much more to do after that.

I plan to do that for one of my interviews too. Only because i have class the day before and dont wish spend more money than i have to.

I flown from Ca to Pa for Temple interview arrived at 5:25am in the morning. It was really tired and might affect your reaction in the interview in my opinion. If you could, I would suggest to arrive there one night before the interview and have a good sleep.

Did you take a private jet?? Or do the major airlines have flights that early in the morning???

Private jet? I took American West which departured at 5:45pm from CA and departured from AZ at 10:00pm again.

it must be a red eye flight then

haha thats funny grettlin. You described my itinerary exactly for my temple interview. im taking america west, stopping in arizona and getting to philly at 5:08 am. Did you sleep on the plane grettlin?

dmoney,

Here's my take: coming and going the same day can certainly save you some $$ as far as a hotel bill goes (nonexistant), however I think it also short-changes you a bit also.

Take some time (even if it's only an hour or two) to check out the area around the school, etc. Take some time away from the structured interview day to mingle with the students.

At my interviews I always tried to shadow/observe in the clinics for a couple of hours AFTER the interview day had ended.

And as far as class goes, I also struggled with missing classes, but then I realized that I was investing a LOT of money into the interview experience so that I could potentially invest a LOT of money into a school. Those factors outweighed the option of not missing a class, and I'm glad I put the extra time into my interview trips.

thanks gavin, I know it's kind of stingy but I didn't expect the interview process to be so expensive. I am going to stay over my friends when I go to Upen and temple interview so I can save 2 nights of hotel, however, I don't know anyone in pitt so I guess I would have to stay overnight, also, traveling by yourslef is not really that fun...I would actually like to explore pitt (as well as the school) since I was told it's in the middle of bumble-f%%% and that there is nothing going on there, although I've heard good things about the school and the simulation labs. but yeah, there is a lot of money to be spent on airfare and hotels that it makes me realize that I shouldn't have applied to that many schools, thanks for your response anyway, I'll try to keep it in mind

Have you asked the admissions office if there is the possibility of staying with a student host? That would save you some money (although I would suggest bringing a small token of appreciation for your host if he/she is housing/feeding you). Also it would give you a really good perspective of student life.

Come to think about it, I know a friend who is very careful with money, she never spend a penny at a hotel would rather start driving at 3am in the morning for her 9am interviews...

I dunno. Personally, I'd prefer to be in a $50 a night motel/hotel that is walking distance form the school, to ensure a good nights rest AND to ensure that I would make the interview on time. There are such variables such as car trouble, flight delays, traffic, etc that could all keep you from making your interview on time.

Well worth $50 in my opinion

hm.. so funny...

You already had too much stress, headache in the application process and have spent so much so far. Why are you so cheap to yourself at this stage ? 😕 😕 Remember you are getting near the finish line and don't blow it.😉 😉 😉
