Does anyone have any recommendations on where to stay for the CS exam in LA? I called a few of the ones listed on the USMLE site and it looks like the Ramada and Travelodge are the cheapest. Any opinions on either of these, or any other recommendations on close hotels? Thanks!

Hello...

I stayed in the Hilton Garden Inn in El Segundo for the LA CS exam. It was excellent...they dropped me off at the test center in the morning which was a plus and the rooms had very comfortable beds with a huge desk, nice office chair and included wireless or connected broad band internet. It's about 5 min shuttle ride from LAX. I would definitely recommend this place...I think I paid 169 per night. Good luck.

Hacienda Hotel is the closest to the test center. its like a 5-10 min walk. travellodge is about a 15 min walk to the center. both are on the same road as the test center.

Has anyone stayed at the Travelodge? It's the cheapest and not too far away, but it has gotten terrible reviews on the travel websites.

What about if you are coming into Long Beach instead of LAX? Still better to stay at the Hilton? Can you take a cab from Long Beach or better to rent a car? $169 a night is kind of high - but maybe worth it to have a good experience.

Any other hotels that are decent?

I decided to get a hotel on Priceline because the ones recommended on the USMLE site either got terrible reviews or were way too expensive. I got a 4 star airport area hotel for $80 when the normal rate for this hotel is about $260. I won't be able to walk to the center, but there is a bus that drops off right next to the center and I'd rather have a clean, quiet 4 star hotel for the same price as the run-down, noisy Travelodge that got terrible reviews. If you want some suggestions on how to get a good deal on Priceline, I'll be happy to share.

One more suggestion if you don't want to worry about bidding on Priceline. The Homestead Suites has a location 1/2 mile from the center for $135 + tax during mid-October. Or the AAMC has negotiated some discounts: http://www.aamc.org/meetings/specmtgs/clinicalskills/losangeleshotelrates.pdf
