I am a biochem major and don't mind school at all but I spend 30-40 hours a week at school and then do just under 30 hours of work on the weekends. I'm quite positive most of you guys are also doing the same thing as me if not more, but what exactly do you do to keep yourself sane? I mean sometimes it just drives me crazy having little to no time for myself, what hobbies do you have?

I'm a chem major, but I don't spend that much time at school. I am a full time student (16 quarter hours) but this quarter im spending less than 20 hours a week in class/lab. Homework/studying takes (I would guess) about 10 hours a week total. Typically my workload depends on the classes I'm taking, which is pretty easy right now.

I play video games and sports in my free time. I'm also in a couple clubs and I spend alot of time at home with my family [parents/siblings].

oh yea, and every week or 2 I have to fly somewhere for an interview 😛

I was a chem major in college, so that took up A LOT of my time, then I did graduate work which took up even more time. Now I am in dental school, and that is even more time.
I drink and cycle, to keep myself sane. Go out enjoy life, do something you find interesting. sometimes you just have to step away from your work to relax. even if you feel overwhelmed. it will help in the long run. no use in overstressing about it. yet you have to get your **** done.
take 2 nights a week to do something for yourself.

When I was in undergrad, I had a lot of free time even though I was a bio major. Now that I am in my 1st year of dental school, I find myself with little to none free time. In the little free time that I do get, I try to go salsa dancing, i'm taking up ballroom dancing lessons now, and try to treat myself to some retail therapy. School is so hard, that some days I just have to forget about the work and relax. Put on a movie, take a nap, or just do something that is not pertaining to dental school. It will definitely help to keep your sanity. I like taking weekend trips as well too. I feel that if you really want to do something, you will find the time to do it. You'll just figure out how to balance everything when you get here. But yeah, it does get boring most days staying in class from 8-5 everyday.

Wow, I don't spend near as many hours as you do at school or doing school-work on the weekends. I guess that the further along I get in school the more I understand what is important and what's not. I also better understand how to do well in classes without killing myself studying.

Remember, there are trade-offs to consider when going to school. You can study all you want, but there is a point when studying reasonably will get you an A- but in order to get an A you need to put in a lot more hours. Is it really worth it? Do the best you can, but remember that you need to enjoy life.
