thanks.

6, but don't lose sleep worrying about how much you sleep. There is so much more in the world to freak out about.

So far, about 8 hours a night every year. I need my sleep 😴

I sleep around 6-7 during the weekdays and 10-12 on weekends. So overall, I average around 8 hours a day.

I was averaging 3 hours a night during my senior year. Often I didn't sleep at all. Caffeine became my best friend. Thankfully, I'm out of school for now and have a somewhat normal sleep schedule. Though worrying about interviews and what not is not helping. 🙁

I slept waaay too much sophomore year, and it was nearly my downfall. Looking back I was probably depressed. Note to everyone  if your sleep is getting out of control, or you're suffering from insomnia that you can't explain GET HELP.

I really don't function well without sleep. I get 8-9 hours per night (have gotten that much all through college).

~9 give or take. I played sports though

I make it a goal to get at least 9 hours of sleep every night. It seems to keep me from procrastinating, while keeping me supplied with good amounts of sleep. On weekends i tend to sleep 10-11hrs.

On the flip side, I don't have any problems getting less than 3-4 hours of sleep if required. I sometimes find myself on a roll and tend to sacrifice sleep to finish something.

In the end, I probably average about 7.5-8 hrs of sleep during the weekdays (range of 7-9hrs of sleep). Just depends on my workload at school and at work.

During the school year when higher cognitive thought is required: 6-7

During the summer when I am researching ~4 or so. I have found that 3.5 is not sustainable for long periods ( >1 week) but, if your doing something that you enjoy (or doing something you HAVE to have done), 4 is sufficient.

More sleep is always better though, if you can get it.

PS- NOT that higher thought isnt necessary for research too... its just that a lot of my molecular bio work has been: pipette, wash, pipette, wash, pipette, incubate, repeat.

Hehe, why are you worried about this at all?

Wow I'm surprised so many of you find the time to sleep...too much going on, and I don't just mean studying. I average about 4 hours of sleep but during prelims and finals it's considerably less.

I'd say I sleep on average about 4-5hrs/night, but during MCAT time, I slept about 3 hours a night.

Why are you worried about this, tiktik?

Most nights I can get 8-9 hours. Although there have been several nights when I only got 2-3 hours.

7-8 hours a day on average. It never changed, in high school, college and med school. It might change in residency, but then again, I can live with 5-6 hours a day, but don't expect me to be friendly all the time...

The first 3 years of undergrad I would pull all-nighters ALL THE TIME because I honestly thought that I performed better on no-sleep after a night of cramming. As a result, my gpa wasn't the best, I got sick constantly, and I was so stressed out! Finally it dawned on me that maybe cramming+all-nighters was not the best combination for my health or my gpa. So, wouldn't you know, finally, senior year, I start getting some sleep (I'd say 6-8 hrs a night) and school seems so much easier, AND I haven't been sick all semester. And I don't panic on tests either.... I think I bought into all the freshmen hype that the ones that stayed up all night were really dedicated.... 🙄

i need my 8 hours! if i get less than that one night, i usually make it up in naps during the day...

wow! 9 hours and more? I don't know but it seems like the more sleep I get, the more tired I am...I usually get about 4-5

freshman- 4hrs a night, and it wasn't b/c I was studying
soph- ~5hrs
jr/sr.- ~6hrs

unfortunately, I can no longer function on this little sleep. I need at least 7 hrs nowadays, which I suppose means I'm getting old and fat

awww come on, as ppl mentioned earlier they need more than 9, so you are fine and good to go 🙂

THankyou everyone for your lovelyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy replies!!!!
*hugz*

normally around 6, but by senior year it was more like 5; not b.c i was studying, but b.c i was boozing it up

geez, I never sleep this much. Five hours is pretty typical, but sometimes as little as three. Weekends is more like 7-8.

5 to 7 hours at home and anywhere from 1 to 3 hours at lecture depending how many lectures i have that day.... :meanie:

on weeknights i get 6-7 hrs. on weekends i get probably about 9-10.

but keep in mind it really doesn't matter how much we are sleeping. different people need different amounts of sleep to function. so go with what works best for you.

last year (my freshman year), i had about 8-9 hours/ night. This year so far, I'm getting about 6-7. Same on weekends. I have a weird body clock so whether I sleep at 10pm or 4 am, I'd still get up around my usual 9am.

enough hours of sleep to pass me by...by the way, if I didn't get enough of sleep it wasn't b/c of being a premed, but mostly due to intense social life🙂
