Anyone know anything about hours worked during auditions. One of my rotations say not less than 40 and no more than 80. Are we really expected to do 80 hours?

It depends on the specific rotation but if you are doing an inpatient rotation, you’re likely doing 6 days on, 1 day off with a schedule of 6am-6pm. That’s automatically 72 hours. Add in an hour for sign out each day and youre at 78 hours. Sounds spot on. Could be longer if you have any 24 hrs shifts in there.

My experience may be outdated as it is now ten years old. My experience was if you’re auditioning, you should be the first one there and the last to leave. That did put me over 80 hours routinely, but this was for a surgical subspecialty. If an OR was still running, I joined it after my assigned day was done. Maybe times and/or expectations have changed. To my knowledge, ACGME work hour restrictions don’t actually apply to med students. I worked over 80 sometimes in my home program as well.
