House is the best show on TV. You can actually learn when watching this show, I think I will remember all the cases that they have shown. Oh yeah and it's twice as good as niptuck, which is way over the top

PLEASE DO NOT EVER LEARN ANYTHING FROM HOUSE!😱
First, he would never be anything near a doctor. He would likely be an inmate, given his behavior.
Secondly, the more medical knowledge I get, the more I realize what crap they put on that show. Although, I do love it for entertainment value.

You'll certainly learn more about "being a doctor" with Nip/Tuck. Although over the top, those guys deal with real issues. House is just an ass. He wouldn't have survived his internship.

p.s. Where's Scrubs?

I mean dont use it to study for the boards but.... for instance the guy this episode had amyloidoses. they used the congo red stain and the amyloids in the slide turned green. We just learned and were tested on all that stuff. I thought that was kinda cool. Yeah but of course House is an ass and normal patients would never put up with any of that

I like them both for entertainment value. Just love those baby blues of Hugh Laurie! The Nip/Tuck guys are wonderfully flawed. 🙄

It's kind of cool earlier in medical school... but after a few clerkships the novelty wears off. They use the right terminology every now and then, but the apporach House et al uses towards diagnosis and treatment are pretty off (these people ever hear of an H&P...or a SOAP note). Every freaking lab test is dramatized to the hilt, I mean for God's sake just order the CBC and Coags already!

Why isnt Scrubs a choice, this poll is a fraud without it as a choice.

Well both are better than Grey's Anatomy :scared:

How much clinical experience do you have so far? There are plenty of clinicians out there who are bigger a$$es than House. They most likely survive internship and residency by not being complete a$$es. Then once they have the power their true colors come out!

Has there been an episode of house yet where someone didn't either go into a coma or have seizures? I don't think I've seen one yet!

Also interesting how House and his peons do all their own pathology, procedures, etc, something else you'll probably never see outside of a small isolated hospital.

Aside from 4+ yrs in an OR prior to med school, let's say I just got my Step 2 score. I've seen enough to know that the extreme heroism and posturing played by House doesn't work when you have colleagues that aren't your residents. Doctors who behave as he does lose their priveleges at hospitals, and grovel back after they've attended "sensitivity" seminars. Maybe a$$ wasn't entirely accurate. He is so much more than that.

I know this is just a TV show, and I know that the drama is heightened for mass consumption, but for real, I truly hope you have never actually worked with a physician like him. If you haven't worked with someone who possesses the vanity and pathos of Nip/Tuck, wait until you graduate. There are far more of them out there than House.

Who said you cannot learn from house? I think their medical stuff is pretty on-maybe they order too many tests blah blah but I remember learning some cool stuff-I remember one of their cases where a girl got measles as a kid and then later in life developed that really rare demylinating white matter disease (drawing a blank on name) but then I looked it up and it was right on-something you will NEVER see for real but it was nice to see an "actual patient" on tv-present with it-I will never forget it. Some of the shows are kind of basic yet they make a big deal but I disagree about it being non realistic

I didn't say there are doctors who act like house, just that I've seen docs act like bigger a$$es. I shadowed a doc who was definitely in the house area as far as attitude, but didn't posture and pull the same heroism stuff House does.

I totally agree that any doc acting like that would get booted from the hospital.

Well in the entertainment arena Nip/Tuck wins, hands down. This season has been GREAT thus far.

SHE HAS A DEVIATED SEPTUM! (tonight's episode)

house is just Dr. Cox from Scrubs redone. Grey's seems like a copy of Scrubs as well IMO.

honestly though, i love all 3 shows.

🙂

I agree. This show sort of reminds me of 'Six Feet Under,' which is like my favorite show ever. If it was on HBO, who knows how outrageous it would be. I never quite got into House, but I do like Grey's Anatomy.
