Housing for Externships

Hi everyone,

Does anyone have any suggestions for finding housing options other than AirBnB? I'm looking for housing options near Oregon State and Washington State so I can complete 2 of my external rotations this summer. I've looked on AirBnB so far and there aren't a ton of options for the summer.

No idea if it’s still a thing, but there used to be an externship housing facebook group (maybe associated with SAVMA? Can’t remember) where students posted if they had rooms available or had recommendations.

Most of my luck was just asking friends and family if they knew anyone. One family I stayed with near Fort Collins I got connected with because I asked a friend of a friend at a party if she knew anyone. I’d just met her that night but she connected me to the family she used to nanny for. They let me and my dog stay for three weeks for free, even tore up and check I tried to leave. Sometimes places will have a staff member who has an empty room they might rent out or let you stay in as well. I visited another school and stayed with two different faculty members over the three weeks. A different rotation a staff member was going to let me stay with them but their basement flooded so I had to scramble to find an extended stay hotel.

Thank you- I might have found something for Oregon through the fb group you recommended! When I hear back again I will ask if they have any housing suggestions for externing students!

You can check Furnished Finder as well! It is for travel nurses, but it's pretty cheap compared to Airbnb. It's what a friend and I are using for our AMC rotation in NYC

Also recommend rotating rooms! similar to furnished finder, medical professionals renting rooms to other medical professionals that need temporary housing.
