Ok, so when I quit my job I'm going to soon have to move out of my house. The house is employer provided. However, I can't find squat in the area around the school I'm going to. I never anticipated this being so problematic. This morning I saw an ad, made a call, and went and looked. It was a filthy, little cube. I asked him if he lived like this, and while he stammered with his answer I said "I'm not about to. Thanks for your time" and left. That's the fourth time now I've been given the run around on some place.

I can't believe that rental properties, be they houses or apartments, are so hard to come across! What are the rest of you doing? Heck, I'm on the verge of looking to buy something.

Where are you looking? Rentals are out there everywhere - you just have to know where and how to look.

I've been to realty companies, I've used referrals, and I've hit up all the apartment complexes north of the ghetto. I wouldn't be on here asking if I could find stuff. I've been searching for nearly two months. It's a town of about 11,000. What's there is filled with college kids.

Contact the med school itself (if there is one where you're at). They often have information, especially from students that are leaving. I never had good luck with rental companies unless its for something rather expensive and short-term.

also, there are LOTS of people on this very forum that rent. If you would say where you're looking, you might find a lead.

Have you tried Craigslist? That's also hit or miss, but if you look hard enough, you should be able to find a decent place.

Craigslist generally isn't going to do much for Magnolia, AR; farm community of 12,000 people including around 3,000 college students. I'm going there for a year of prereqs that I can't take anywhere around where I'm working/living. Oh well. It can't ever be easy. I've beat the streets for sure. Maybe once all the kiddies graduating move out I can snag a clean, inhabitable place.

Try calling local churches. There might be stuff listed in the bulletin, or many churches have some property they rent.

Haha, sindadel read my mind, that was what I was going to suggest. Although, I can't tell if you are just venting (in which case, feel free. 🙂)

Another option is the college housing boards. Student rentals are often subpar, but I would think you could find something better when the summer comes and there's more turnover.

Try rent.com or forrent.com, I used them to find every apartment I lived in for the past 7 years. They give you $200-$100 cash back for using them to find your apartment. It is free, and reliable.
