  1. Dental Student
Recently accepted to tufts. Does anyone know any nice places to live near tufts? I am willing to take out loans in order to live near the school. I want to live alone, as I feel more comfortable that way. and if anyone knows: does tufts send an email out with regard to housing?

thank you

Boston resident here (not a dental student.. yet!), Tufts is on Kneeland St., which is in the heart of China town. I know a few people who are students at Tufts and live in that area, they don't have anything negative to say.. I'm not sure what the price for rent would be, I'd check Zillow. You can also look around the seaport district, which is an up-and-coming area close to Tufts. It's probably a bit pricier, considering most of the buildings are recently built/renovated, but it's a beautiful part of town to live in.

Let me know if you'd like to get in touch with a current student or two for other suggestions.

The no nos is Dorchester and Roxbury. Stay away from that.

Hi I'm a dental student at BU and a real estate agent.
Part of my service is to take videos/pictures of units of interest as well as the neighborhood if you cannot check it out in person.
If you sign a lease with me, I charge one month's worth of rent, like any other agent.
If you are interested shoot me a message 🙂 [email protected]

Dang. Maybe I should become an agent. I've been doing this stuff for free for my friends 🤣

It's robbery here man.

haha. At least it isn't San Francisco. 1st month's rent, last month's rent, 1 month security deposit, and all that BEFORE an agent's fee if you need to pay that/go through an agent.

I wish I was kidding telling you that some landlords in SF requested an entire year's rent in advance.

WHAT?!
Perhaps they're renting out to more higher-end tenants than students? I have a hard time imagining that dental students can come up with $30,000+ for rent upfront.

SF's housing situation is ridiculous.

Go on the 2021 facebook page and see the spreadsheet. Living right by Tufts is either luxury apts ($2,000 per roommate +) or run-down, hard-to-get places (starting at $1300 per roommate)

Another reason why I hate sf. So cal represent.

And just my luck I'm deciding between schools in SF and Boston

Schools are still great - you just have to study the housing situation carefully and protect your finances from crazy high rents.

It is possible to get affordable housing in Boston. Friend of mine goes to Tufts, lives in a 4BR house with roommates, and pays $750/mo + utilities. He lives 10 mins walking distance from school.

Hi guys! Anyone set on Tufts?
I’ll potentially be moving here in the Fall for dental school and was interested in looking for a female roommate!! PM me if interested
