At this point, I am looking to go Tufts University and live as close as I can to the school. Maybe you could just give me some advice on areas to live. I've heard that Dorchester is not the best place, but that's all hear say.

In addition to what Dr. rice is asking, could anyone in the area give advice as to when is a good time to search for apartments? My wife and I have talked to many brokers and they give conflicting advice. Some say wait 60 days before Sept. move in and others say try to get a place as soon as possible. Does anyone have real experience finding rentals in Boston?

The most convenient place to live is right in the neighborhood around Chinatown.

In Dorchester, the main drag along Dorchester Ave. and Neposet St. where all the Vietnamese and Irish live is quite safe. Two blocks over is a completely different demographic where the Guardian Angels patrol on foot at night and there's weekly stabbing or shooting. Here's the crime map for your analysis:

There's no need to get an apartment now because it' just money wasted. Look now but get one for August.
