In the fall, I will most likely be attending CSUN, and one of my good friends will be attending Mt. St. Mary's. We are both from Oregon and would like to live together if possible. Is there good housing in between the two? Should we choose one area over another? Is leaving together feasible? Any help would be great!

Hi there! I currently live near CSUN (but will be going to Philly for PT school) so I can shed some light on the areas. The distance between the two schools is pretty great, and with LA traffic, you're lucky to get anywhere in under 1 hour. The Burbank area is probably about half way between the two schools, but traffic is killer at all times of the day. You definitely want to avoid living near, and traveling on, the 405 freeway in the mornings, especially southbound into the city.

Living in or around Burbank is probably your best bet. There are areas of Burbank that are nicer and safer than others though, so you want to be careful. Looking at a map, the intersection of the 101 and 134 freeways is a nice area to start looking; apartments tend to be a little cheaper but still good quality (intersection Magnolia and N. Hollywood Way is a great little area. My friend lives right over there and pays less than $800 for her own room and bathroom in a 3 bedroom place). Feel free to message me with any more questions! This is my turf 🙂

You can also check Woodland Hills area, west of CSUN. It's about 20 min from CSUN, and you do not need to go on jammed highway. You friend will be stuck in the highway traffic, though🙂. You can also check Sherman Oaks area, it is ok and right in the middle between 2 schools. Studio City is ok, but housing prices will be higher there than in other areas
I also agree with what the previous post said.

I agree with this! I actually love in woodland hills and it's really close to csun! But your friend would hit horrible traffic going to mount st Mary's everyday :/ I also agree with looking in Sherman oaks or north Hollywood!

Born and raised in LA....100% honesty, each of you will save yourselves a lot of time, energy, bad moods, co2 inhalation, gas and car maintenance/depreciation if you live separately. CSUN and st. Mary's are 25 miles apart, and those 25 miles on arguably the busiest freeway stretch in the US, let alone LA.

Having also been born and raised in LA (and I also went to CSUN), I'd have to second La2Philly. I think you guys would be better off getting your own place close to campus. Otherwise, you'll want to poke your eyes out with all the traffic you'll have to deal with. Best of luck to you guys!

Thank you everyone for your responses! They have been extremely helpful 🙂
