I'm a medical student doing an away rotation at Montefiore Children's in just under a month. They just told me that there isn't any housing available for students, and they aren't giving me any info at all about where students have lived when rotating for a month.

Do any of the current Montefiore or other Bronx residents have any advice about where to live, especially short-term?

Thanks!

I would suggest avoiding the Bronx. You can use the subway and live in Manhattan, easily. Especially the upper east and upper west sides. Same travel time, less stabbing time.

2 good websites to try are www.rotatingroom.com and www.beds4meds.com where students list their apts while they're away on elective rotations. since they're also away for month-long rotations at a time, its easier than craigslist (where they are a lot of scams esp for nyc) to find a place for about the time u need. and most of them post just for whatever their rent is.

u'll find in nyc with craigslist, that ppl charge $100/night sometimes and the cheapest i found on ues (which is uber expensive) when i rotated at cornell was $360/wk to share a studio with the girl sleeping on the floor next to the bed she was renting out (she called it a 'large studio' which it may be by nyc stds). i ended up w/ a place for $400/wk (yeah $1600/mo) where i got my own room and i could walk since it was 2 blocks away. most expensive rotation by far that i did.

u might not want to live in the area near monte. some ppl find it sketchy (tho i don't but my tolerance is higher) on the east bronx side. west bronx tends to be safer (and less diverse and more boring...) or u can live in the upper city and transit in. keep in mind that it'll cost about $90 ($2.25 x 2 ways x 20 days) that u have to factor in if u do this. a 30 day unlimited ride metrocard (buses/subway) is $104.

u could also try and find out if there's a listing of aecom student dorm sublets, maybe on one of those 2 websites i mentioned or by contacting aecom b/c monte is their hospital and they have dorms...and they also need to do aways, right?

because some loser that couldn't make it in their home country/nation (aka refugees) are more deserving that you aussies I guess.

If you know anyone at Einstein your best bet is to ask them to send an email out to their class to see if anyone has a room available (the 3rd and 4th years). If you stay at Einstein, you can then take a 15-20 min shuttle ride to CHAM.
Although its probably more fun to live in the city.
