I was wondering what do people out there do about housing- if you are attending a school that's far away from your hometown...where do you look for housing?

I asked current dental students at perspective schools for ideas and also got in touch with real estate agents at any school I've been to.

The amount of information seems to be pretty variable from school to school concerning housing, especially if your married. One school I have been to had listings of current 4th year graduates houses for sale in the admissions office, another school gave me some websites to search, and one had nothing. Regardless of the information available at each school I try and pick-up a local real estate magazine or get some realtors numbers while in town.

While I like to stay away from real estate agents if I can help it, they may be your best new friend especially if your looking at buying a house in an area that you have no knowledge about. They can give you some good advice about areas you may want to stay away from, modes of transportation available in different areas, ball-park price range of housing, etc.
