Hello,
Does anyone have any advice on the different Houston programs?
- UT Houston LBJ
- UT Houston Memorial Hermann
- The Methodist Hospital
- Baylor
- UTMB Galveston (I know this isn't in Houston, but it's close)
Thanks!

I am a fourth year student in Houston, so I can speak to most of the programs.

UT Hermann: I agree with a different post that this is probably the best program in the city. They have excellent gyn surgery experience. The faculty are well known. Gilstrap, of Williams Obstetrics, is the department chairman. The facilities are nice.

LBJ: many of the same faculty as the Hermann program but it's based almost entirely at the county hospital. The residents are given much more independence than the Hermann residents. The LBJ residents are confident and have good OB experience and skills. Ed Yeomens is one of their faculty and he is the guru of forceps delivery.

Methodist: The methodist facilities are wonderful! The OB will be at St. Joe's and the gyn surgery will be at Methodist Hospital, so it's a nice mix. The program will be stable now. The program director, Dr. Toy, is one of the best teachers in OB anywhere in the country. Great person, and great residents.

I don't know anything about Baylor. They do not have a good reputation, although the word is that they are improving.

Hope that helps.
