From my notes on other schools... It may be a good idea to list as many revisits as possible for scheduling concerns. Does anyone know when Yale's revisit is?

How far is the skiing from UWash? Before you all point it out to me, yes, west coast skiing is way better than east coast skiing.

Crystal Mtn is about 90-120 minutes from downtown Seattle and is probably the best slopes in WA. Snoqualamie Pass is just over an hour away from seattle but is a little crappy. Whistler (in BC) is about 2.5-3 hours away and is absolutely amazing.

I still can't believe that a revisit consists of a ski trip at Crystal. I am so stoked.

Late April or first few days of May.
It was May 1st last year, I believe.

Hoping to hear opinions from others on these schools...

I was just curious. Did the schools contact you for a revisit or was an invitation sent? I have accepted a position at a school, but have not heard anything about a second visit. I contacted the school regarding housing, and they said I would take care of that during the second visit weekend. Do I need to call them to set up a weekend?

When did you hear from Duke? I thought they weren't sending out acceptances until early March?

i heard from duke last year in november or something - they do a small batch then and a larger one later in the year.

most schools will let you know about the revisit - though some some are rather disorganized about the whole thing. i would contact them about it.

I'm curious what the deal is if you're on a waitlist. Do you go to the revisit? Can you go?

No. As far as I know at all programs you must have an acceptance to attend a revisit. Often however you can arrange an all-expenses paid separate revisit if you come off the waitlist later.

This is with the exception of Baylor and Pitt where the revisit is before you know your acceptance/waitlist status.

Is the revisit weekend a good indication of your future class at that school? Since there is so much switching that still continues through May 15th, what's the point of the weekend?

Additionally, what are the chances of getting in after the revisit weekend? In other words, is the revisit weekend an indication that the school has given out most of its acceptances?

Thanx,
hotRNA

hotRNA: I believe that most MSTPs (correct me if I'm wrong) are not rolling (OHSU's MD-PhD program is an exception), so they generally will have given out all, or at least the bulk, of their acceptances by their revisit dates. Thus, even though not all of the applicants you meet at revisits will end up attending that particular school, it is probable that those who do wind up going there will have been at the revisit weekend (does that make sense?). So, I think you, in fact, will be able to meet most of your future class at second look...it's just you may not know which they will be. 🙂

Anyway, the main point of the revisit weekend should be for you to learn more about the school and make a good decision as to whether you want to spend 7 or 8 years there. Aside from trying to gauge what your own class will be like, it will also be a chance to get to know current students a little better, visit with faculty you are potentially interested in working with, etc. From the school's perspective, it is definitely a recruiting event.

I received a letter via FedEx yesterday (Friday, 2/27), asking for a confirmation of attendance by March 5, after which spots vacated by withdrawals/non-responders will be offered to other candidates. Hope that helps! 🙂
