Hey, I did an away rotation at Mayo Jax. They were still at St. Lukes, but should be transitioning over to the new hospital soon. I liked the program, but didn't end up applying there for a few reasons. This is how I broke it down.
+: Extremely friendly residents and attendings, good nursing staff, pretty interesting cases (large referal center for Florida and Georgia). Fairly "cush" call schedule with interns sometimes leaving by 2:00 on non call days. Some research available
-: Very small program (positive for some, but not me), below average fellowship match (my third year resident went unmatched in GI and conveyed that this is not uncommen), are going to the mayo uniform of suits on wards, small one hospital system.
Overall I really loved Mayo, but don't be fooled. IT ISN'T MAYO ROCHESTER!! Its a way above average community program that happens to have the mayo name attached to it. I know nothing about CCF except its the topic of many a debate on this forum. BTW, Jacksonville is a pretty great town, good weather (hot and humid but good), with fun stuff to do and a fairly young population. Crime can be bad at times, but not Philly or Houston bad. Hope it helped, PM me if you want to know anything elso.
