Hi Folks,
Anyone knows a little more about U of Maryland? Are they patient-centered or emphasizing on research? From their stats, I can tell they accept a good portion of out-state applicants. How does it compare to other state schools, like UF, U of Michigan? How are their facilities? Anyone who has visited there or comes from Baltimore is welcome to leave their opinions. Thanks.

Maryland and UM take a good number of out of state applicants. UF, however, only takes 5-10% from out of state. Maryland is a patient-centered school, while UF anf UM and strong research schools.

jb!

Maryland is in the ghetto. but is patient based, and yes they do accept a lot of out of staters. new building.

UMaryland is apatient-centered school. In addition, they do a lot of research (I think in the top 5 of research funding). They just moved into a new facility within the last month so they are pretty high-tech.

Marylanddds is correct that it's not in the greatest part of the city.

alright i am a 1st year at MD dental, so i think i can answer some of your questions. in my opinion, MD is both a patient-centered and research-oriented school. i feel that they are training clinicians first, but we are 3rd in the nation in overall federal research funding. we just opened a brand new, beautiful and technologically-advanced building that is seriously amazing.

as far as all the baltimore and ghetto comments you will read on SDN, this is what i can say from personal experience. baltimore is a city just like any other city (there are really nice parts and not so nice parts). the school is located in one of those transitional areas - not terrible, not amazing. but people definitely exaggerate the bad things they say about baltimore. i have loved my 1st 2 months so far if that says anything.

if anyone has any questions, please feel free to pm me. i am a MD supporter and am so glad i chose to attend this dental school! good luck with applying.

anyone heard anything from this school?

I got an email stating that my application was complete blah..blah..blah, but nothing since

ok, heres something to ponder over. I sent my cheque to MD and they couldnt cash it. So they returned my cheque. Then, I sent a bank draft. Guess what; they return my bank draft saying that I've already paid the application fee by cheque and that I should wait until an admissions officer contacts me. WTH??

Hey ecuajedi. I received a letter in the mail from MD dated Sept. 22nd offering an interview on Oct. 11th. Hopefully you'll be getting a letter in the mail soon too. Good luck.

sorry. I meant SpikeyMike83, but good luck to you all anyways.

Hey,

For those that are worrying because you're not hearing anything back. Don't. The reason is the whole school is extremely busy with the move to the new building and the admissions office has just started to look through the mountains of apps you all have sent in. Sit tight and good news will come!

ive sent a few e-mails to some of the admissions staff at UMD and i have not heard back (its been over a month). should i be worried or is this just because they are so busy with the move do u think??

I just recieved my interview invite today through email.. it took them over 3 months to send me a secondary, but only a day to send me an invite after i sent them the secondary.

Did Maryland update anyones AADSAS. My still is blank from them. Just wondering if they are even using it.
