How accurate is the AAMC table A-24???

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
1. It is the most accurate since it includes all of the official amcas applicant data.

2. No, you should base your applying decisions on the MSAR in addition to what you know about URM admissions

Only reason why I ask is because based on that data i have a 75% chance to get accepted into an MD program with my current stats but based on MSAR it seems i have very little chance. I know that much more consists of the app, and I feel that I have completive LORs, ECs, and PS.

Oh okay I see what you're saying, individually it could be low but statically for all the schools i apply to it can be much higher. With that said, would you consider that 75% a positive then....(i don't have family and people really to give me good judgment on these types of questions)

The national acceptance rate for all applicants is about 40%, so yes, 75% is amazing. You’ll have a great cycle 🙂

but their stats would still fall within my range, bc they break it up to GPA and MCAT scores
I wasn't just talking about you (I don't know your stats!).
I'm explaining the elements that make this data more difficult to interpret.

Anyone who self describes as African American is included.
That includes many highs stats applicants who are not generally considered AA (e.g. Egyptians).
That tends to muddy the water.

Are Egyptians who self identify as African American actually considered urm by the adcoms?

Make a post in WAMC or in the URM forum and we will be happy to help you out with a school list
I have posted in the URM forum the same question and got no response, could you just move this thread there

No. The term "African American" typically denotes descendants of those who were brought to this country involuntarily up through the mid-19th century via the Atlantic slave trade. Most Egyptians are Arabs, and therefore legally considered Caucasian.

No. This is a well discussed topic on the forum and there are good reasons for it.

Yeah I don't think they should be for many reasons, was just wondering.

That's what I thought.

I do have an Egyptian friend who applied last cycle as African American, but he was also black so might be different for him.

Personally I usually check white/other and just write in Arab or Middle Eastern into the other box when given the option.

My reasoning behind it is if you have to think about if your black or not....youre probs not black lmao
On the other hand, if you’re like Kanye West and look black...you’re still black 🤣
