Hi guy,

I have been around this site for quite some time and have finally decided to pursue dentistry. I am looking to apply for the 2006 cycle so I am wondering what you guys think about how I'm looking so far.

GPA: 3.67

Sci GPA: 3.55

DAT: Will probably take in late march

Ec's: Two years varsity college baseball, tutored 1st graders in reading for 2 years, volunteer lab assistant 1 semister, presidents scholars program, vice-president collegiate FFA, member of 2004 Dynamics in Leadership Class, Bio-med Club, and Chemistry club.

Honor's: Phi Theta Kappa, Tri Beta, Who's Who Amoung Junior College Students 2004 and 2005.

Awards: Award for Academic Excellence in Physics and Award for Academic Excellence in Life Sciences.

And I have done some shadowing but I think I may need to do more.

Thanks for any feedback

Where have you taken your pre-reqs? If you've done them at a community college, they won't count for many schools.

DAT is a major factor. You should take it before weighing your options. Otherwise, it looks good so far.

As long as you went to a 4-year college and did not take too many easy classes you should be in good shape if you do well on the DAT.

Well unfortunatly most of my pre-reqs were taken at a junior college. I know that doesn't look good but I really wanted to play college baseball and after I got hurt they were the only school that still wanted me.

Also I'm not feeling so hot right now cause I had kind of a drop last semister with a B in Micro, a B in Genetics, and a C in Organic I at my current university.

But I figure if I do good this next semister I will be looking good.

I have seen this on the Tufts website, but I haven't seen it for any other schools...so I am wondering about the same thing!

I bet when it came down to it Tufts would wave this if they really liked the applicant.

Ive went through bascially every dental school's webpage, except puerto rico cuz apparently ada doesnt have the right webpage for them and i cant find them on google, but ive seen quite a couple schools say that they wont take credits from a community college, those that come to mind right now are michigan and tufts. I dont remember all of them because im attending a 4 year university and it didnt really relate to me so i chose to ignore it. Also, almost all the other schools say they wont accept more than ___ hours of work from a CC, most of the numbers were around 60.

BTW someone told the OP that as long as he/she didnt take too many easy classes, he/she would be fine, what exactly would you define as "easy" classes, because i think i might be taking a few of them later on. Do dental schools look down upon that? Mainly taking stats and algebra/trig after finishing calc I/II. Also plan on taking one semester, and only one semester, of spanish I.

You make me laugh...ha..ha...i highly highly doubt they would waive it.

With the number of app's they probably receive I bet your right. That probably wasn't the smartest thing I've ever said.

Oh i thought I might need to add that I'm a Biology major with a minors in Chemistry and Exercise Science.

And I have an A.S. in Chemistry/Physics.

I don't know about tufts but Michigan will accept CC if you have good four year university GPA. I took practically every single pre-req at CC and I got into Michigan in the first round. I don't know what their website says but I am the example that proves it wrong.
To the OP. If you want to get accepted make sure you do really well at four year university and get DAT 20+ and you will have no problems. I was offered 9 interviews/14applied and went to 4 of them and had 3 acceptances on Dec 1st. Good Luck man.

I went to a CC.... Finished Chem 1 and 2, calc, and bio 1 (and everything else to get my AA) and got into dental school just fine...

Rock the DAT, give them an original personal statement and impress the hell out of them in your interview, then you're solid
