I am going to apply to all 4 Florida schools (FAMU, UF, NOVA, PBAU).

To those who are in these schools.... how is it? The program itself, the teachers, the students?
Please tell me everything and anything about your school. I unfortunately don't know anybody who attends any of these schools. So I have no clue what these schools are like. Except for online research.

Also tell me about yourselves, what grades did you get? pcat scores? do you have any degrees or just the pre-reqs done?

THANKS ALOT!!!

no one here attends Florida schools? Or do people not want to write about it?
I attend UF at a distance site. They have recently changed the curriculum, so what I took during my first year, you may not be taking.

The program is hard but do-able. I'm in my 3rd year and they assign more work and projects than can be done in an 8-hour day. I get up before 6am and do school work every weekend. I haven't seen anyone wash out in 3rd year (just 1st & 2nd), so I just need to keep at it.

I'm at St. Pete. We have organizations such as KE, ASP, FSHP, CPFI and a new athletic club is just starting up. We also have a UF dental school at our campus, so you can get dental work for cheap.

The teachers are mostly all good. There are a couple here and there who are a pain in the butt. The students are okay. Most everyone I used to hang with washed out. I just go to school, do my work and don't socialize anymore.

Dana,

Thanks for the info. I am going to apply to all campuses.
So do you have any offtime? Any time where you can just relax and not think about school?

Not much time this year. I'm enjoying the 3-day weekend. We're going to the big home show at the convention center today. This is the only light week this semester. We have no pharmacotherapy cases this week, either.
🙂

I still have to finish this weekend's Pharmacy Outcomes research & take a quiz on it and I'm working ahead on my Biotransformation elective. Oh, I still have 2 lectures that I didn't get to watch last week, too. And two more quizzes, based on those lectures. But, overall it's not bad when you don't have cases.

MaybeCO2010,

I attend Nova COP at the Davie main campus. I am a P2 this year and I can truly say I enjoy it. It is a rigourous schedule, but it can be done. If you have any questions feel free to pm me.

As far as down time, I love our schedule we have a break over the holidays (I think it is 4 weeks) and then we have summers off, unless you choose to take an elective. These breaks are very needed, believe me LOL !

Good Luck 🙂

Do you regret attending a UF satellite school instead of the main campus? UF is my #1 choice out of all my applications due to location and the possibility I might attend the Orlando campus. Although, I'm still unsure if I want to put the Orlando campus as my priority instead of the main campus.

No, I don't regret it. The only thing I don't like is the drive time. Last week we were required to be in Gainesville for 3 hours. It was just like another lab for the students that live there, but it killed the day for the distance campus students. I also have a pretty big commute to my campus.

We have a couple of students in my class that transferred from Gainesville. They both like our campus better. They like the smaller class sizes which makes it easier to interact with other students and the instructors. Our class is about 1/2 the size of that in Gainesville.

That was something I was wondering. If you were to get accepted to one campus, how difficult is it to transfer to a different one the following year?

it depends on which campus you want. if you want gville then it's nearly impossible unless you have a very, very good reason. for distance campuses, you have a better chance but again it depends on the available seats at that campus.

I'm at the distance campus in Orlando and I absolutely love it here. I've got the best classmates and a good 13 or so of us hang out on a regular basis (just today we were at an awesome BBQ hosted by Imperial Frog). I love the smaller class sizes and above all I love watching lectures in my pj's. I was the biggest skeptic and was dreading the distance site but love it now. I already had a BS and I enjoyed my undergrad years so I was ready to be over the whole Uni experience. My roommate (who's also a 2pd with me) didn't have a degree but still says she doesn't regret it one bit. We're a pretty close knit group and I wouldn't change it for the world. Also, we had a student who had to transfer to G-ville due to family problems and she did so no problem, however she was starting her 3rd year. One thing to note is that many g-ville 4pd's have been randomly assigned new campuses for when they return for their last semester. It really sucks for a lot of them. Good luck!
