How are loans dispersed?

Hey all,

How are gov and private loans dispersed? Will they be giving me or the school a check?

I remember for scholarships... the only way I'd get the money credited to my account was to "cash" it at my school..

I never took out loans before so I have no clue how it works.

The money goes towards your school account, if there's leftover you get a refund check.

I only have Fed loans... not sure if the privates operate differently...
