Overall GPA: 2.7 ( I messed up first few years of college)
Pre-req: ~2.9 (chemistry...)
Last 45/60 units: ~3.5-3.7
Major: Molecular Biology

I am current a PT aide and planning to do some acute volunteering as well. I have 2 semesters left of college and I don't feel like I would get anything lower than 3.0 withing the next year. If I keep it at this rate, what are my chances of getting into any PT school?I know my chances aren't good with public schools, so I was thinking of maybe applying to mostly private schools. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Also I was thinking about CA School such as, ST. Augustine, Samuel Merritt, and Azusa.

Hey,

I'm hoping to apply this coming cycle. To my knowledge/understanding, most schools don't even except applicants with a sub 3.0 undergrad GPA. There are exceptions of course, and every school differs in the ranges of scores they look for. Admittance also depends on your LORs, GRES, and hours....so it's hard to tell you your chances without the whole picture. For now, you should aim for 3.5 for your undergrad and prereqs. If you can, maybe take some classes over, or even take additional classes that could fit under the requirements.

Your chances aren't good to be honest. Your pre-req GPA needs to be high to compensate for the low overall GPA, but it's only 2.9. Even schools that look at your last 45/60 credit hours like USA will probably not accept you. Re-take any pre-requisites you still have a C in. Don't apply to any school that requires a 3.0 GPA to apply.

There is a sticky at the top of the forum with years worth of people's stats that got them in to/denied by different PT schools. I would read through a few pages of that. You probably won't see a lot of C/C+ students floating around there.

Yeah, if you have an empty summer, re-take 2-3 of your worst classes. You may get 'dinged' for having so many retakes...but by taking one step back, you will be taking 3 steps forward by doing so...also, if you do you HAVE to get 4.0s in them...

Look carefully at different schools. Call up someone on the admissions committee and talk to them. In about 2 months, PTCAS will have the up-to-date information posted for all of their programs for the upcoming cycle. Don't look at just minimum GPA requirements. Pay attention to the average GPA for undergraduate and pre-req. Talk to someone at the schools you are interested in, and ask about your chances and what you can do to improve your application.

Suggestions when you call someone at a PT school.
- Know the background information about the admissions process at that school. If something is not clear, it is okay to ask for clarification.
- Have a specific question(s). The more specific the question, usually the more specific the answer.
- If you are not sure who to talk to, call the secretary or administrative assistant. She may be able to answer some basic questions, and she can also forward you to a specific faculty member.
- Be nice and polite to whomever you talk to.
- Be appropriately formal. 'Hey' is a bad way to start a conversation or email.

That said, good luck.
