Hey everyone, my name is Matt, and I am a freshman pre-med at Towson University. First semester, I got a cGPA of 3.697.

This is my current Spring semester:

Bio. II + lab:
Gen. Chem II:
Gen. Chem II lab:
Hon. Art:
Women's Immigration (gen. ed.):
Mass. Comm.:

Unfortunately, I bombed my first Bio exam (57%) and the highest I can get in the class is a B. I also assume that I will be getting between B's and A's in the other classes, so my GPA will land anywhere between 3.6 and 3.8. I feel that if I withdrew from Biology, and retook in next semester, I could get an A in the class. I'm upset in myself for letting that bad grade happen. Also, if I withdrew, I feel like I would be able to ensure better grades in the other classes.

Anyways, I'm not trying to be a troll or complain a lot. I just want to make the best decision in order to reach my goal.

Mainly advice on whether to drop the Biology course would be helpful. Also any tips and advice about anything pre-med or anything random is welcome as well! Thanks everyone!

Hi, Matt. You look solid, all the way to the third decimal.

I say keep the class and pull the B. It won't kill you this early in the fight if you improve the quality of your work going forward.

You'll want to look for clinical experience at some point to prove that you are willing to jump double Dutch ropes for your shot at a medical education. I would recommend you buy an MSAR soon and read it to give yourself a thorough understanding of the process well in advance so you can know how/what to improve.

Thanks for the input! I think keeping the B in Biology sounds practical. Does anyone else agree or think otherwise?

A B isn't worth the W, especially as a freshman.

Agree. Use it a reminder to yourself.

And if you do well enough to show that test was a fluke, maybe your professor will weight the others more heavily for your grade.

Take the B and start thinking about the next semester. If you withdraw, interviewers will ask about the situation where you had to withdraw from the class. To help your GPA, you can take a science class or two during the summer or winter sessions.
