Okay so took my 1st Achiever test today(1st full length besides kaplan diagnostic). I have been studying from 2 months and will be taking my test in 2.5 weeks. For some reason I just have not improved in bio at all :scared: I didn't take RC. Here is what I got...tell me what you all think plz

Bio - 15:scared:
Gchem - 18
Ochem - 20
QR - 21
PAT - 17

Any comments on how to improve in bio? I read thru kaplan review notes twice, shaums once, destroyer once. Will be going over Schaums again this week and destroyer again next week. Thank you!

Don't worry. I feel that when you get questions wrong in Bio section, it's mostly because you haven't covered that section yet. When I took my first topscore and achiever tests, I got around 15-18 all across the board. I think destroyer really helps alot. I did all the questions and read all the choices for each question. I wrote down words I didn't know and read up on things that I didn't know. I suggest a college level bio textbooks such as campbell's to support destroyer. The questions are usually gonna be simple. It's whether you wen't over the topic or not. So try to cover most materials even if you're don't have time to memorize them. Good luck!

I also just took my first achiever exam today as well. Got 18 in gc and bio, 19oc, 19pat, 19rc, 14qr😡🙁. I hope achiever is not a real indication. QR had so many freaking word problems, I had no chance at even seeing the last 5 questions. My test is the 31rst, so it looks like we are in very similar situations. I guess I'm going to go through Schaums again, and make sure I know destroyer, and make sure I can handle all the algebra/trig/geometry math so I can just focus on word problems. I think the best thing you can do is just keep reading material and doing questions. I spent about just as much time reviewing my achiever test as I did taking it....almost.

Those are excellent scores for achiever. As I am sure you know the Bio section in Achiever is not even close to representative of the real thing nor does it properly test the amount of knowledge you know on the subject. But IMO you will completely rock GC and OC with scores like that.

mine didn't have many word problems in Qr. May be we have diff version of achiever? hmm I thought every1 gets same tests for achiever. Did your QR start with this question? X^8/4y^2

Yeah! Some stupendously hideous fraction with like 20/4 with a host of variables. If I remember there were a few probability word problems, one which I later learned needed the "work equation".......some compounding interest one that I had no clue at all how to set up....and a few others. I didn't even try the last 5 questions.

yea I had the compounding one too...had no clue how to do it lol I need to brush up on that...I guess we do have the same tests nvm

For compouding interest. Say you start with 10$. And the compouding interest rate was 10%. So after year 1 you would have 11$. Then after year 2 they would have 1% of 11 +11??

You will be fine - just learn from your mistakes! Usually when you get something wrong and go over it, you never forget it... so it's kind of a good thing you are getting things wrong now. It will force you to learn those concepts. Don't worry, you look like you are in great shape!!

PS - my practice test scores improved 2 points in the last week before studying, so don't stress on not having enough time left... 2.5 weeks is a long time and you look like you're golden in chem!

No, here are the formulas that you use.

Bo = amount that you started with
r = interest (in decimal)
n = # of years

So for your example, Compounding interest would be..

I = 10 x [( 1 + 0.1/1) ^ 2 - 1]
= 10 X [(1.1) ^2 -1]
= 10 x (1.21 - 1)
= 10 x 0.21
= 2.1

So after 2 years they would have 10 + 2.1 = 12.1

Simple interest would be...

I = 0.1 X 10 x 2 = 2

So after 2 years --> 2 + 10 = 12

Thanks! I am worried about Gchem & Bio the most. Last year I did the worst in gchem.

Thanks! I had to read this twice to understand the formula, but I understand now.

don't worry about your ach. scores
last year my avrage was 14-15 in real DAT I ended up with 20. just learn from your mistakes.
good luck 🙂

achiever is wayyyyyy to hard...
Well, not hard, but the test maker has worded the questions so that we get a wrong?? maybe?? i don't know. but i'm sure the real thing can't be that bad. Topscore maybe but not the achiever... The PA is freakin weird on achiever man.

Agreed! PAT was crazzzzyyyyy

^ Totally agree, PAT was crazy. Did you like that one shape that ended up folding into a "beach-ball-type-globe-with-alternating-dark/light" on the pattern folding. The way it was unfolded for the question was insane!!!!!!! I paused for a minute to make sure it was real.

I actually got that one right lol :laugh: don't know how

just took the 1st topscore test
got
BIO 19
OC 18
GC 17
QR 21
RC 19
PAT 22

22 days left until DAT..... hope we all get above 22..!!

dont worry achiever bio. it is pretty tricky. the one on the real test is really "not random" like what people say. It is really straight forward and easy other than 1 or 2 experimental questions like FRAP. If you know Kaplan fully and destroyer (questions and answers) fully, test should be a piece of cake for you. For me, personally, Schaum's was not helpful at all. However, QR on achiever is really easy, much easier than the real test.

yea I felt that too! no wonder I got 21 :laugh:

What would you say QR is comparable too? You did awesome in QR👍

QR, I think it is comparable to Topscore. Topscore QR is bit tough. Make sure you know quadratic equation and HOW TO GRAPH THEM.

ok thanks! don't really know how to graph quadratic equation. Never came across that before or may be I just don't remember.

Took the 2nd test and did even worse!!!

Bio -16
gchem - 16
ochem - 17
PAT - 17
RC - 20
QR - 19
TS -17
AA - 18

I am taking the test in less than 2 weeks. Do you guys think I should extend the test and study more? I know achiever is harder than the real thing but seriously? look at the score 🙁 I cannot afford to get another low score on the real thing!! I don't know what to do. I am really confused. Any advice?

Hi! You situation sounds very encouraging... I've been getting 14/15 on kaplan and I've studied for 3 weeks already... so what did you do to end up scoring 20??

Thanks!

Don't extend the test. If you worry about these scores, you'll mentally psych yourself out. I found achiever irrelevant to the real exam and honestly, a waste of my time. It helps only for learning purposes but isn't set up like the real examination is (none of that a)I and II, b) I and III crap). I kept getting low teens in sciences and ended up doing fairly well. Keep a positive attitude. The test is a majority mental.
