hey... how bad would it be to call and reschedule an interview....we they be upset? I got one scheduled in a couple of weeks and I just had some personal "family" issue come up and will probably need to reschedule for a little later...
am I screwed if I call to reschedule? will they hate on me for the inconvience?

I wouldn't worry about it. I switched a bunch of my interviews around and was told I was ranked to match at some of the places I switched. don't worry, it will be okay.

So far the people have been nice, I've had to do it twice already. If you can do it via email that might be more convenient for the secretary who is probably totally swamped this time of year.

I think it happens all the time... really, I would not worry about it too much.

... as long as you exercise basic courtesy, acknowledge that it poses a bit of an inconvenience to the person scheduling, and say please and thank you!!
Oh, and be understanding if changing the schedule simply isn't possible -- a lot of interview dates have filled up!

That said, if it's a really important family thing and an interview that is important to you, you can probably emphasize that to them, and maybe have someone (like your PD) call on your behalf to help squeeze you in on a "full" day.
