I'm looking at getting a C in Bacteriology. Believe me, I'm doing everything in the world that I can do to prevent this. It's just that the material is nuts! My last exam was over 30 genuses of bacteria or around 50 if you include species. I had to know the colony morphology and how every bacterium biochemically tested for indole, catalase, oxidase, DNase, TSI, LIA, citrate, etc. You freaken name I had to know it! I'm a Medical Technology major (B.S) and I'm currently in my last clinical year. This is also my 7th microbiology course to take if you include Mycology as well. I even did my undergraduate reseach in micro! That's another reason why this is so hard on me. Micro has always came so easy and really interests me.

Anyways I'm freaking out because there's no way that Dental School will take me if i get a C my Senior year in something as crucial as Bacteriology right? It seems like that would look bad since the mouth is one of the filthiest places involved with the human body. Another thing is that Dental schools will fail to see that I am on a 7 point grading scale, which sucks. For instance, in my immunohematology course that I finished a few months back, i got a 92.4-B. It looks like this Bacteriology grade is going to be aroundan 83%-C but all Dental schools will see is the "C", nothing more...nothing less. Do you guys think this C will be the end of me or do you think the fact that I have taken so many other courses in Micro/bacteriology that this will matter very little or of course do you guys think that i need to just nut up and stop acting like a little b*tch? I know this was a rant so I'm sorry. Feel free to criticize. At this point I just want some honesty even if it is harsh.

Take a breath and relax. I spoke with a member of the admissions commitee for a dental school, whose name that I won't mention. I asked him if the two C+s on my transcript would play a role in getting accepted or rejected. He told me not to worry as long as they were isolated incidents. Meaning that you don't have a bunch of Cs, and your GPA is fairly good.

So don't worry. Not all of the applicants to dental school have 22s with 3.8gpas.

except you rocked the DAT lol

Yeah and we were also talking with an admissions officer at a dental school & if they bring it up in the interview, never make excuses for yourself, but refer to something positive, like you did at the end of the post. That gives you +1 points & the interviewer wasn't left wondering negatively about the C. I mean it happens, we're not super machines, if we were there wouldn't be an admissions process.

I have 2 C's in Chemsitry, and 2 C-'s, one in neuro, the other in early bio (I retook these two classes)
I have 4 interview invites.

Don't worry, I had a C in Organic Chem I, and another C in Immunology. and I've had 6 interviews and 2 more to go. Nothing to worry about. 😉

It is about the total package, not one grade! :hardy:

You will be fine. I have few Cs, Ds and even F freshmen year and I was still able to get a number of interviews.

quick question, are the few Cs and Ds in science and you still get accepted to dental school on your first try....

I am not in dental schools yet. I am applying for this coming cycle and so far I've got 7 interviews.

I was a pretty bad student freshman year so my grade was really bad back then. Lets see. I got C- in Chem 2A, D+ in Chinese, F in math, retook it and got a C, and C+ in bio 1A.

I was worried about this too --- I'm taking physics now and am really worried about the grade - I am interviewing as well right now. That doesn't really help - missing school and exams, etc. So I was wondering, if I get a C or below, I don't know if schools would actually rescind me (if I got into a school by the first week of December). I don't know if they'd just straight up rescind or what they'd do. Physics is a pre req ...and some places say you need to get a C or above, other letters say you need to just keep up your grades (or continue with the same type of academic record...which is probably impossible at this point for me).

I was thinking If something bad happens I might just take physics again second semester senior year and physics 2 in the summer? I don't know I just don't want to get kicked out if I got in.

What do you guys think? I know I posted about this way earlier in the year but am still worried. Thanks everyone!! I hope all of your interviews/school years go well! :luck:

You have to maintain a C average or better in your prerequisites. Most schools will say "accepted upon successful completion" of any remaining coursework you have. Plus, most schools require that all coursework be completed by June 1st before you matriculate. So, work hard to keep your physics grade up.

Yeah, Physics is rough. I'm on my first semester of it, and will still be shooting for an A (or highest grade I can manage), but who knows what will happen.. A couple C's won't hurt.

ahaha
i have 2 Fs and 2 C+s. Im not trippin. 😎
