You don't intern anywhere the summer after your first year of pharmacy school? I may not be able to intern anywhere this summer for personal reasons. I'm really worried if this will hurt my chances of getting a job after graduation. I'm even losing sleep over this, it's ridiculous. So many people in my class are talking about their upcoming internships, it's making me feel down.

What advice do you have for me in terms of attaining internships so I'm more likely to get a job after graduation?

You'll be fine. You still have 3 more years of pharmacy school and IPPE/APPE rotations. You should, whenever you are ready, begin searching for an internship. The way I got my first intern position was just by calling different community and independent pharmacies asking if they have any opening for interns.

It does seem you have more of a problem not seeking an internship then whatever problems are preventing you in the first place. I do not know how serious of a problem you have but maybe you should consider therapy of some sort.

Yeah peer pressure during pharmacy school can take a toll on your mental health. I would suggest start putting together a resume & being prepared to answer some common interview questions. Contact pharmacy managers in the area & do online applications specifically for intern positions. Also, see if you can have any classmates put in a good word for you. Make sure you don't have any stupid phone or email settings (blocks) preventing you from receiving messages.

The longer you hold off, the more difficult & limited your options will be in the future. Just get a start on getting all the "professional" paper work out of the way.

I didn't intern until halfway through my 2nd year, but for every classmate you have that takes a position, that's one less that's available for you. Zero-sum game.

When I was in school, my pharmacy would ask me to recruit interns to work. I am sure if you mass email to your class begging them for help to get a summer job, someone might help you. I work in a pharmacy now and we always ask interns in their final year to find someone to replace them. Pharmacies love summer interns since they handle all the problems, are harder workers than techs, lower the pharmacist workload and also handle consults.
