How can I open a PA anesthesia program?

For Physician Assistant programs the ARC-PA is the accrediting agency. The guidelines can be found here:
http://www.arc-pa.org/Standards/3rdeditionwithPDchangesandregionals4.24.08a.pdf

Any PA anesthesia program would have to fulfill the general educational requirements for PAs in addition to additional training in anesthesia. To my knowledge there has never been a PA anesthesia program but there are currently focused programs in surgery, pediatrics and primary care.

If you mean Anesthesia Assistant then CAHEP is the accrediting agency. The guidelines can be found here:

i think we need PAs involved in anesthesia.. We need a choice in which provider to use in the OR.

PM ME about it. and lets have a healthy discussion about it on here

Thank you,
I will strongly suggest that the name Anesthesia Assistant to be changed to Physician Assistant Anesthesia...
In the close future I can speculate that the CRNA-s will claim that they can "supervise" an Anesthesia Assistant...
I looked over the guidelines - why do they have to be affiliated with an university program? I think that a pretty good training (!!!) can be obtained in a private group..

We tried that in the 60's and early 70's. The PA and medical profession decided against specialization. All PAs are broadly trained in medicine. They may practice in a specialty but the broad general medical training is what differentiates the PA training from other non-physician providers. If someone wants to train in one area of specialty medicine then they are welcome to it, just not as a PA.
