how can you determine your sucess in a non-stress interview? Everyone seems to like you...they are nice..etc

BUMP

I definetly have the same question! I had a low stress interview, everyone was nice, but when I talked to other people who interviewed on the same day, their interview was also very low stress... so if everyone had what seems like a great, chatty interview, then how do those people pick? Maybe in the end, the interviewer just picks out the student he had the greatest connection to? 😕

What I've concluded about interviews is that at a great majority of schools, they're not as much a chance to boost people's chances as it is to weed out the socially inadequate. So in other words, they just want to see if you're able to interact with people in a satisfactory manner. If you've got a strong application going into the interview (numbers, experiences), this is good news (assuming you're halfway decent at talking with people.) If you've got a marginal application and you're hoping that a good interview will get you accepted, this isn't such great news. This is partly why you hear a lot about people who thought they interviewed well getting waitlisted/rejected while many thought their interview went terrible but they still got in.

Of course, I've heard of exceptions where the interview is weighed very heavily but these schools seem to be rare exceptions rather than the rule.

I agree with the first response. You can't. Stress interviews are easier to judge (at least for me). If you didn't break down at all and stood your ground, you did well on a stress interview.

I'm sure I'd kick major butt at a stress interview (cool under pressure is probably my best trait), but I haven't gotten any yet 🙁

Anyone wanna trade because I'm not sure I do so well on non-stress interviews?
