I just received the secondary from Stritch but I scored poorly on the MCAT 25, and my GPA is 3.37, 3.48...just wondering if its worth applying since I'm planning to improve the weak MCAT...
Any Advice?
Thanks!

Based on that I would say the 2ndary screen isn't very rigorous. I would not say applying is a waste, but it never hurts to improve your scores. They also stress a committment to service. I would not apply to Loyola without service EC's.

From Website:

Avg MCAT ~29-30
GPA:
Science - 3.59
Non-science - 3.74
Total - 3.66

thanks! I have a good service/research rec so hopefully something comes of it..

I am also applying to Loyola.

I'm competitive with those stats and just got the supplemental letter a few days ago. Crazy thing is they want 3 LoR from science professors! I've only got 2, so I better get on a third LoR.

Ok, I pretty much have all that, but how are they on out of staters?

hey can someone anwer my question here? pleeease?

Though your question is not directed at me, I thought I'd chime in since Loyola is where I plan on attending. In no particular order:

1. Hines VA and the University teaching system are amazing rotation sites.

2. National Cancer Institute-supported Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Center (for those like me interested in doing cancer research).

3. The stritch facilities are simply unparalleled in comparison to the 12 other schools I've seen, particularly with regard to the lecture hall, anatomy lab, and small group rooms.

4. The gym is more like an exclusive health resort than a "gym."

5. They are going paperless.

6. I personally like the hybrid curriculum, which for one thing focuses extensively on small-group learning, case-based learning, and other innovative teaching modalities.

7. Ronald McDonald children's hospital.

8. I like the area and climate of Maywood, which is 16 miles from chicago, but is much cheaper/safer/etc.

9. The faculty, staff, and students were by far the most inviting and kind people I have encountered yet during interviews. Talking and interacting w/ them really made me want to go there even more.

10. Not a big thing, but I really dig the fact that they don't do abortions there. I really appreciate and respect this position.

So that's only 10 reasons, but there are many, many more reasons why I think stritch is a great school. Before I interviewed at Stritch I would hear people talk about choosing a school that just "feels" right, but I didn't really understand what they meant. As soon as I left the interview at Stritch, I knew that that was the place I wanted to go. It felt right in every way. It's hard to explain, but I absolutely fell in love with it. They seem to value all the things in a school that I value.

I interviewed at the end of October, accepted a week later. April MCAT.

those are pretty good scores. I may be mistaken, but it seems like people with scores like that often don't get accepted into med school. It seems like you have to have scored better than the statistics that schools supply.

...Or am i wrong?

btw, Mr. Seeds, ethanol is much mo better in the "doggy" conformation.

Thanks, psycho! i applied to loyola as an out-of-state applicant. From the MSAR: "At least 50 percent of each entering class are residents of Illinois." I'm not sure what to make of that, really, but there it is...

VERY TRUE. VA is a level 3 trauma center, and Loyola hospitals are awesome too! However, only 1% of Loyola students match into competitive residencies.

I am not sure how I feel about this. I personally oppose abortions in many cases, but for reasons that are not religious. Whenever I see something like this, I become suspicious if the school or the students will indirectly try to enforce their religious views on others. I respect the charity based activities carried out by hospitals with religious affliations, but I would hate to argue on evolution everyday with fellow students.

I think that the school has a high number of IL residents because people from IL are attracted to the school, not because there is any big preference for IL residents. I could be wrong here, but that is the impression I get.

There is no such thing as a level 3 trauma center in Illinois, so i don't know what the VA is, but LUMC is a level 1.

Can you elaborate more on your residency statistics?
