How close to the character limit should you be?

Help!

I'm working on the Case secondary, and my anything-at-all-essay is only going to be about 3,500 characters... but they give you 7,000! I can't figure out if they just want people to be able to express themselves, or if they really intend for you to use the whole space. And, if I write a good essay, will the adcoms not like that I didn't use the whole space? This is a problem for me on both of the Case questions. Any advice would be great.

that's a pretty long character limit....i was told to try and fill the space. only a couple of my essays were less than maybe 500 characters shy of the limit, but i had 4 or 5000 character limits. in the end, you want to write the best essay. if you nail it in 3500 then stop. but if you can add more, it can't hurt. this is your best chance until the interview to show who you are.

i agree with the above. if you've gotten everything you'd like to say in 3500 characters, leave it at that. med schools want to read thoughtful essays. your 3500 characters can easily be worth much more than someone else's 7000 BS.
