Hi y'all! Hope you are having a great August. I wanted to post and ask if anyone who has gone through an application cycle, or works with admissions, could shed light on the question of this thread: "How Common Is It To Get Ghosted by Schools?"

For context, I applied to 40 schools. I have received and submitted 39 secondaries. I am extremely fortunate to hear back from a handful already for interview decisions, but I wanted to ask if it was a common thing to not hear anything back as this cycle progresses.

Thanks for reading. I hope everyone is having a great cycle thus far!

It's still early in the cycle for interviews. A lot of interview invites are still to come. Your secondaries might not have been read yet. Even if they were and didn't meet the cutoff for an interview invite right now, they might be kept on the pile to return to later. I was still receiving interview invites in Jan for secondaries I submitted in Jul when I applied. After that is when I started getting interview rejection emails. I don't remember if any school never emailed me at all, but if you haven't gotten an interview by january it's pretty safe to assume you're not going to.

Thank you for the response! That was actually helpful. I will keep it all in mind. 🙂

If you have not heard from ANYONE by Thanksgiving Day, you may have something to worry about. Many schools won't say anything until they have a final decision for you and that decision is likely to be "do not interview, do not admit". At some schools, < 10% of applicants are interviewed!! The other 90% will be informed next June that they aren't getting an interview or a seat. There have been odd situations where people get interviews in June for admission a few weeks later (state schools that are going to make up a budget shortfall on the backs of desperate OOS students who happen to be in the area).

The reason to apply to 40 schools is the hope that 3 or 4 will interview you and at least one will make you an offer. The other 36 may be silent until next summer.
