I just talked to my vice-dean and found out that I will likely not be making AOA. I have a 248 step 1 score and multiple publications/projects. How important is AOA, I have honored/high-passed all my courses thus far.

Sort of in the same boat, although my school does not offer AOA. May I suggest going to nrmp.org, if I remember correctly, individuals with a 240 to 250 step 1 have a 67% chance of matching. NRMP can give you an example of where you stand comparative to the most recent plastic surgery match. Other that that, you can do some quick searches because this question has been addressed by some more senior members on the forum. Good luck!

I agree - outcomes of the match was very helpful for me determining where I stood amongst applicants. However, it is my understanding that letters of recommendation and board scores are the most important factors. A letter from someone a program director knows personally (and academic plastic surgery is a small world) saying you are the best thing since sliced bread will definitely help you get interviews.

Numbers and letters and pubs get you interviews. Your interview and interactions with the residents get you the spot.
